On Thursday morning, President Barack Obama called for an overhaul of immigration laws and asked for support from the Republican party.
Advocates of an overhaul have been increasingly agitated by the lack of development lately, so Obama's plan came just in time. He acknowledged the "broken immigration system" and admitted that Washington's efforts have been "a failure."
Obama plans to secure the U.S. border more effectively, create a way for illegal immigrants to procure citizenship, and create a guest-worker program. However, the laws can only pass if a significant number of Republican voters get behind it. "That is the political and mathematical reality."
