Manny Pacquiao has agreed to fight Antonio Margarito on Nov. 13 for the vacant WBC super welterweight title according to a report from Yahoo! Sports.
The fight will either be held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena or in Monterrey, Mexico, depending on whether or not Margarito can obtain a license to fight in the U.S.
Margarito (38-6, 27 KO) had his fighting license revoked by the California commission in February 2009, when its inspector found illegal substances hidden in the fighter’s hand wraps.
In a 4-1 vote earlier this month, the Nevada State Athletic Commission tabled Margarito’s request for a license to fight in Las Vegas and encouraged him to reapply in the state he received his suspension.
However Margarito was too late to get on the California State Athletic Commission’s meeting this month and would have to wait until September for it to meet again. In the meantime, he plans on applying for a one-fight conditional license in Nevada.
Should Pacquiao (51-3-2, 38 KO) claim the super welterweight title, it would mark the seventh weight class the Filipino has won a world title.
In his last fight, Pacquiao defeated Joshua Clottey by unanimous decision at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
