MANILA, Philippines - Actor-comedian Redford White became the most talked-about personality on Twitter on Sunday afternoon, following his death a few hours ago.
White was first on Twitter trending topics as of 3:17 p.m. on Sunday. The 54-year-old actor passed away at 6:47 a.m. at his home in Novaliches, Caloocan City after losing his battle with cancer. (Read story here.)
"Ayon sa ating tanod, namatay [siya] dahil sa tumor sa utak," a certain Edwin Ringo of Barangay 177 in Maligaya Park Subdivision told radio dzMM.
Netizens from the Philippines and other parts of the world mourned the loss of White and thanked the comedian for sharing his talent with the Philippine entertainment industry.
"Another great comedian has passed away. May you rest in peace, Mr. Redford White. You have contributed much in Philippine entertainment," said Twitter user callme_train.
User neva_mnlmommy added, "RIP Redford White. We grew up watching you on Buddy and Sol. Thanks for the fun times."
White has been sick since February, according to singer-composer Jim Paredes, a close friend of the comedian.
"Bahala ka na sa akin sa taas...It's been a great wonderful life you have led. I will see you again. I know that. Ingat, p're!" Paredes said.
Born Cipriano Cermeno, White was last seen on television in the ABS-CBN primetime programs "Kokey" (2007) and "Palos" (2008).
On the silver screen, he was last seen in the 2008 Metro Manila Film Festival entry "Iskul Bukol: 20 Years After (The Ungasis and Escaleras Adventure)."
Incidentally, his first television appearance in 1977 has in the "Iskul Bukol" television series.
