Two of the brightest stars in the Philippines joined forces in their first ever back-to-back concert in front of an ecstatic international audience here.
Singers Christian Bautista and Erik Santos captivated hundreds of fans at the O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire, delivering rousing performances of OPM (Original Pilipino Music) classics and contemporary Western hits.
The event, dubbed as “Champions of the Heart”, was the first ever concert to feature Bautista and Santos together as headliners. The singers performed several duets, as well as solo performances of covers and original songs.
“This was supposed to be done in Manila, but it didn’t happen,” Santos told the crowd.
Bautista added: “That’s right. It’s our first back-to-back concert, and you’re the first to see it.”
Both acts signed copies of their merchandise at the end of the concert, attracting a long queue of fans who were eager to meet their idols.
“It’s really exciting to see those Filipino artists performing, especially here in Europe, so I’m here to support them,” said one elated fan.
Another one added: “It’s always nice to see these young artists. It makes me feel young, and it’s nice to support them.”
The “champions” were joined by comedian Pooh, who tickled the fans with funny anecdotes and his own brand of acerbic quips. The “Banana Split” actor performed comedic songs as part of his routine, as well as joining Bautista and Santos for the finale.
They were also supported by a number of young British Filipino artists, who each opened the show with their rendition of chart-topping songs.
Bautista and Santos emerged in 2003 from the first season of ABS-CBN talent search “Star in a Million.” Both of them have since conquered the hearts of millions of fans, each working successfully as a singer, actor, model and television presenter.
Bautista also proved popular in the rest of Southeast Asia, carving a decent following in countries like Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia.
Champions of the Heart toured in Europe through London, Leicester, Vienna, Paris and Milan.
