After following the wake and funeral of former President Corazon Aquino via the Internet, inspired Filipinos from around the world vowed on Wednesday that they would fight for political change by voting in the 2010 elections.

“You came at the right time, when our country needed you most. You left us at the right time, to relive in our hearts and minds the desire to make our country a better place by being united," said Michelle G. Mañalac in a message she posted on GMANews.TV’s Cory Aquino tribute page. “In a way, you have reminded us to vote wisely for the coming presidential election in 2010."

Since Mrs. Aquino’s death last August 1, the tribute page has combined live streaming video with Facebook Connect to allow visitors to post their comments in real time on what they were seeing in the video, as if they were signing a guestbook at a real wake. It was the first "interactive virtual wake" staged by Philippine media.

Unlike at a real wake’s guestbook, however, the comments on the tribute page have not been all solemn – some made jokes about the nuns praying at the wake, others reacted sarcastically to the sight of their least favorite politicians, and more than a few debated and occasionally dissed fellow posters. Again, not the kind of conversations that took place at the real wake in La Salle Greenhills and Manila Cathedral.

As the days approached the funeral today, the traffic on the page exploded, with dozens of posts received in a single minute and the video beginning to buffer because of the load.
The sorrow of the first days gave way today to pledges of political action through the ballot.

All the way from Japan, Robert Paul Arias Zarate said he “is grateful for God's gift of TITA CORY! Your passing away has made me decide to register as a voter here in Japan for next year's elections. Please guide the Filipino people to vote wisely."

Alex Beasca said, “I hope that the Cory Magic will live on until 2010. She reminds us all to vote not for ourselves but for our country in the coming 2010 elections."

"Farewell Cory. Your death gives me the reason to vote appropriately and to choose rightly the next leader of our country in 2010," said Wina M. Hernandez.

Mrs. Aquino’s death unleashed a flood of affection rarely seen in the Philippines. The emotion in the streets, at the wake, and at today’s tear-drenched requiem Mass for the former President was witnessed by countless Filipinos overseas on cable television and their computer screens and echoed in their Facebook posts on the tribute page.

Angelo Reyes said, “Tita Cory is more than a political figure, more than a symbol of democracy and peace. She was a mother, a housewife, and the household was a nation."

“Madame President, we love you so much, you are a great leader. All the Filipino community here in Santiago, Chile love you so much," said Victoria Artificio.

In reaction to the long funeral procession for Mrs. Aquino, Margarita Magpantay remarked, “It is only the humblest who deserve the longest funeral."

“Cory Aquino: A great lady, a great patriot, and a great non-violent civic activist. Requiescat in pace. From a Cuban exile who admires her greatly," said another.

From Revelyn del Rio: “The Aquino couple were born for the Filipino people and died for the Filipino people."

Loren Mae Gacita perhaps summed up best the sentiments of many who participated in the global conversation.

“Your legacy will continue forever. You will always be remembered. U will always be in every Filipino's heart," she said. “Thank you for fighting for our democracy. You fought a great battle."

MANILA - Former Philippine President Corazon Aquino, heroine of the 1986 people power movement, was laid to rest on Wednesday after an eight-hour funeral procession that had to inch its way past hundreds of thousands of mourners.

Holding umbrellas against the pouring rain and chanting "Cory, Cory," the crowds waited patiently along a 20-km (12-mile) route through the city from Manila Cathedral to the memorial park where she was buried with military honors. The funeral procession took over 8 hours.

As the cortege passed, many waved, scrambled to touch the flat-bed truck on which her coffin was laid, or made the "L" sign, her trademark during the fairytale revolution that ended the dictatorship of Ferdinand Marcos and captivated the world.

Masses in Aquino's memory were celebrated in Catholic churches throughout the country, with 2,000 officials, diplomats and business figures attending the largest in Manila's 400-year-old cathedral.

Aquino's youngest daughter, Kristina Bernadette Yap, a film and television star more popularly known as Kris Aquino, thanked those attending.

"The last words Mom expressed to each of us were 'Take care of each other,'" she said.

"I know that those words weren't meant just for our family, but for all of us as a nation. In the way that all of you have been thanking us for sharing Mom with you, our Mom never failed to thank each of us."

The military gave a 21-gun salute and buglers played "Taps" as Aquino was buried next to her husband, Benigno, whose assassination in 1983 catapulted her to the national stage.

Three years later, over a million people poured into the streets to support troops who were backed by Aquino and had revolted against Marcos. Marcos and his family fled into exile and Aquino held the presidency until 1992.

World leaders

Among those paying respect to Aquino was East Timor leader Jose Ramos-Horta. President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo came straight to the cathedral from the airport on her return from a visit to the United States. She only stayed briefly.

On Tuesday, Marcos's son, Ferdinand Jr., and daughter, Imee, joined the wake. Their mother, Imelda Marcos, has also expressed her sorrow at Aquino's death.

World leaders, including the Pope, U.S. President Barack Obama and Chinese President Hu Jintao sent messages of sympathy.

The government had announced a 10-day period of mourning, financial markets were closed and a public holiday was declared on Wednesday.

In the cathedral grounds, mourners clad in yellow -- the color associated with Aquino and the 1986 revolution -- watched a live broadcast of the Mass on two giant screens. Thousands waved yellow balloons or banners.

Police said a procession extending over two km (one mile) -- more than 100,000 people -- later filed slowly behind Aquino's cortege as it wound its way to the cemetery. Some walked barefoot from the church, radio reported.

Posh and humble vehicles alike bore a strip of yellow ribbon tied to a door handle or rear-view mirror.

People's responses

Many of those present were too young to have experienced the revolution that propelled Aquino to power.

"I only knew Cory from my history class in school and from my parents who were at the revolution. I came here to show my gratitude to her," Andrea Corpuz, 16, said while standing outside the cathedral with a group of friends.

Lani Daguro, a 32-year-old woman who was following the cortege, said: "This is the moment for us to show others that this generation can step up to the challenge, others have done it before, now it's our turn."

People from all walks of life showed their love and affection for Aquino.

Rachelle Singson De Mesa, 55, took a ten-hour bus ride from Laoag City in Northern Luzon just to be in Manila Cathedral.

"I love President Cory. I want to see her the last time. My relative just died, too. But I'm here. We'll bury him on Sunday," she told abs-cbnNEWS.com/Newsbreak.

She had not slept, but de Mesa's spirits remained high despite the rains. When the sun came out, she screamed, "Thank you, Lord!" Others clapped with her.

But even when it rained again, people hardly complained.

Like People Power in 1986

Elvis Rodolfo, 47, employee of the University of Sto. Tomas, looked at the bright side. "At least, it's not so hot," he said. Being a volunteer firefighter for the funeral cortege, he followed the procession until the Manila Memorial Park.

The event made him nostalgic for his younger years when he joined the first people power in 1986.

"I was a volunteer of the National Movement for Free Elections. My friends and I were in EDSA," he recalled.

Like she did in 1986, University of the Philippines professor Sarah Raymundo, 32, waved the "Laban" sign.

"I was only 9 years old when I joined my first big mass demonstration. I was making the Laban sign because everbody was doing it. Today, 23 years later, I see many children doing the same. They, too, I'm certain, will never forget. This is who we are as a people," she told abs-cbnNEWS.com/Newsbreak.

Many people wore yellow shirts, headbands, and ribbons. Some brought yellow roses. Some trucks played the People Power song, Magkaisa, over and over again.

The crowd grew thicker toward the Manila Memorial Park, which prolonged the funeral procession by several hours.

"We love you forever"

Many citizens expressed their feelings through cartolina banners saying, "Thank You, Cory" or "We Love You Forever, Cory." At Quirino Avenue, a group of ten men climbed the roof of a building to wave a cartolina banner.

At the Bicutan service road, the number of spectators occupied half of the road up to the end of the convoy and looked like a sea of humanity.

All throughout the parade, people never got tired raising their hands to show the "Laban" sign, and they were always ready to wave as the convoy passed by them.

At the Sucat exit, a choir serenaded the convoy with People Power songs.

Employees of the Bicutan Caltex station also caught people's attention when they posed in salute.

Max's Restaurant at the Sucat Exit displayed a yellow tarpaulin that reads: "Max's joins the nation in morning the death of former President Corazon Aquino."

'We will miss you, Tita Cory'

Cristina Alba, battling to get nearer to the truck bearing the flag-draped coffin, fell several times, losing the slipper from her arthritic left foot.

But the crowd -- many in tears over the death of their beloved "Tita" (Aunt) Cory -- lent the 64-year-old a helping hand, lifting her up again and again within inches of the truck so she could say a final farewell.

"This is not the end, Cory, we will miss you," Alba said, flashing the 'L' sign with her fingers.

"She was our hope, the source of our strength," said Alba, a retired government employee who joined the former president's army of supporters 23 years ago. "Do you see how even in death she can unite Filipinos?"

Military helicopters circled overhead, showering the crowd of tens of thousands with confetti.

People in buildings lining Manila's streets opened their windows, hung yellow banners and also dropped confetti onto the sea of mourners. Many cried -- some silently, others openly wailing their anguish.

A crowd of nuns, their blue habits wet from the rain, released white doves and yellow balloons.

Ships docked along Manila Bay sounded mournful horns.

'Cory, you are not alone'

As the funeral cortege slowly passed by a poor section of Manila, crowds of children with yellow ribbons tied to their heads rushed to the truck, overwhelming security personnel who had to push them back.

Navy personnel and policemen stood erect along the route and saluted their late commander-in-chief, whose coffin was guarded by four members of the armed forces.

A crowd precariously standing on the edge of a condemned port-side building lofted a banner that read: "We love you. Thank you and goodbye President Cory."

A mob of barefoot men circled the red bus carrying Aquino's five children and other relatives. "Mabuhay kayo ("long live the Aquinos"), they shouted while gently tapping on the lightly-tinted windows.

University students clad in yellow -- Aquino's trademark color -- were among the mourners, carrying placards that read: "Cory, you are not alone, we love you."

Millions, including from the 8.7-million-strong overseas Filipino community, monitored the slow progress of the cortege on television and Internet sites with streaming video.

Proud to be Pinoy

"Thank you very much to the Filipino people," said an emotional Rapa Lopa, an Aquino nephew. "It is really very heart-warming and very overwhelming."

He said the huge turnout showed that Aquino was dearly loved by the public.

"This is really so reminiscent of 1983, when Ninoy was taken to his grave," he said, referring to the former president's assassinated husband, opposition leader Benigno 'Ninoy' Aquino.

"She made me proud again to be a Filipino," said Father Catalino Arevalo, recalling Aquino's bloodless triumph against the 20-year dictatorship of Marcos in 1986.

"The outpouring of sympathy and national solidarity is just tremendous. MANILA - More than 250,000 people took to the rain-soaked streets of Manila on Wednesday to bid farewell to former president Corazon Aquino, whose "People Power" democracy movement ended decades of dictatorship.

Amid chants of "Cory, Cory!", the funeral convoy carrying Aquino's body wheeled into the Manila Memorial Park after an eight-hour long funeral procession skirting the Philippine capital's gleaming business towers and teeming shantytowns.

Aquino, who died aged 76 after a long battle with cancer, received full military honors in a private ceremony in Parañaque. Family members wept as representatives from the country's Army, Navy and Air Force lifted Aquino's casket off the flatbed trailer and placed it on a caisson festooned with yellow and white flowers.

Aquino is to be buried next to her husband, Benigno, whose assassination in 1983 catapulted her to the national stage.

With a national holiday called as part of 10 days of official mourning, thousands of people surrounded her coffin as it left Manila Cathedral following a mass just before noon. Eight police officers in full dress uniform served as pallbearers, carrying the casket to a flat-bed truck festooned with yellow and white flowers.

Police had estimated the crowd in central Manila alone to have reached 150,000 by mid-afternoon, but as the procession continued on its 18-kilometer (11-mile) route, thousands more braved the rain to join in.

At Manila Memorial Park and the stretch of highway leading to it, up to 50,000 more people were estimated to be in attendance, officials and reporters at the scene said.

Aquino was to be buried late afternoon but the throng of mourners reduced the cortege to a crawl and delayed interment.

Millions more, including from the 8.7-million-strong overseas Filipino community, monitored the slow progress of the cortege on television and Internet streaming sites.

Mrs. Arroyo cut short a visit to the United States following the former leader's death on Saturday and was met by the Aquino family.

But she was pointedly excluded from the invitation-only mass that was also attended by two past presidents, Fidel Ramos and Joseph Estrada, and foreign diplomats.

MANILA - The Filipino nation paid tribute to former President Corazon Aquino on Wednesday with one priest describing the ex-president as "the only true queen the Filipino people had."

In his homily at the Manila Cathedral in Intramuros, Fr. Catalino Arevalo, SJ, pointed out three attributes that made Aquino a great leader: her selflessness, her faith and her courage.

He said Aquino put love of country above self and family, which endeared her to the nation. He pointed out that Aquino was a woman of prayer who always turned to God whenever she faced trial or hardship. Finally, he said Aquino possessed courage and abiding loyalty.

"It was a strength that others could lean on. It was always there, it never wavered. It was never broken,' Arevalo said.

He said the greatest tribute given to Aquino were the thousands of Filipinos who lined up for hours, braving the elements, just to show their love for the mother of the nation.

"These words are for the mortals with bruised hearts who have lost the mother of the people....Perhaps a little less elegantly, the seminarian told me last Monday, she was the only true queen our people had ever had, and she was queen because we knew she truly held our hearts and in gentleness and greatness of her own," he said.

The funeral Mass for Aquino started at exactly 9 a.m. with Balanga Auxiliary Bishop Socrates Villegas, a close friend of the Aquinos, as the main celebrant.

Among those seen attending the Mass were Vice-President Noli de Castro, East Timor President Jose Ramos-Horta, former presidents Fidel Ramos and Joseph Estrada, Senators Panfilo Lacson, Aquilino Pimentel Jr., Rodolfo Biazon, Alan Peter Cayetano and Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr., Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Chairman Bayani Fernando.

President Arroyo pays last respect to former president Cory Aquino, August 5, 2009

MANILA - President Arroyo, after arriving from the United States on Wednesday early morning, immediately went to the Manila Cathedral and paid her last respects to former President Corazon “Cory” Aquino who succumbed to colon cancer August 1.

Arroyo had just came from the US in commercial Philippine Airlines Flight PR 105 which arrived 3:53 a.m. at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

she was met at the wake by the late president's son Sen. benigno "Noynoy" Aquino Jr.

Mrs. Arroyo was in Washington DC when Aquino passed away last Saturday. She immediately declared a 10-day period of national mourning from August 1 to 10. Mrs. Arroyo also declared August 5, the day of Aquino’s burial, as a special non-working holiday, to give the Filipino people the chance to honor the late president.

Public Works and Highways Secretary Hermogenes Ebdane Jr. and Arroyo's former presidential chief of staff Michael Defensor were seen at Aquino's wake before Mrs. Arroyo arrived.

Press Secretary Cerge Remonde earlier said the president is “very sincere about her condolences”.

“She (Cory) was a great woman and she presided over the most important historical event in our country in the last 100 years and that is the peaceful People Power revolution,” President Arroyo was quoted in a statement on the Palace Web site to have told CNBC business news anchor and reporter Maria Bartiromo in an interview. The interview was reportedly aired by CNBC at 4:45 p.m. Monday in the United States (4:45 a.m. Tuesday Manila time).

The President served as Undersecretary for Trade and Industry during the Aquino administration.

The president, in her US trip, met US President Barack Obama at the White House July 30 (US Eastern time), with the two leaders praising Philippine-US partnership in a range of issues. The meeting, held at the Oval Office, lasted 45 minutes. She also discussed the fight against terrorism with Obama as well as the global economic crisis, climate change.

Earlier, Palace officials who went with Arroyo in her US trip have said the president would go to Aquino’s wake even as Aquino’s family refused a state funeral offer from Malacañang.

“Before they left for New York, her officials confirmed to reporters that President Arroyo will definitely, personally pay her last respects to President Aquino,“ reported Ging Reyes, ABS-CBN North America News Bureau chief.

Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita had earlier said Mrs. Arroyo will arrive in Manila on Wednesday, the scheduled internment of the late president.

“Sec. Ermita expressed with certainty that he's almost sure that nothing untoward will happen, that the president will not be treated badly there, and they all expressed admiration for the Aquino family also, and don’t expect anything untoward once the president arrives at the wake,“ Reyes reported on ABS-CBN News.

Some local news reports have quoted Aquino’s son, Sen. Benigno “Noynoy“ Aquino that Mrs. Arroyo would not be welcomed. However, Sen. Aquino was also quoted that they would treat Mrs. Arroyo with civility and be polite to her if she attends their mother’s wake.

“As for Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita, he said they're quite certain that even if Sen. Noynoy Aquino earlier expressed that the president won’t be welcomed at the wake, he's quite certain that things would go smoothly, that the opposition or the critics of President Arroyo will not go against the tradition of Filipinos in respecting and honoring our dead, especially the beloved, former President Cory,“ Reyes said.

Erstwhile allies

Aquino was once an ally of Arroyo and was instrumental in the incumbent president’s installation to power in 2001 where Aquino joined calls for the ouster of former president Joseph Estrada.

In response however to President Arroyo’s apology in 2005 for the “Hello Garci” scandal, Cory held a press conference asking President Arroyo to make “the supreme sacrifice” by resigning from office. The scandal concerns the release of wiretapped conversations allegedly between President Arroyo and then Commission on Elections (Comelec) commissioner Virgilio Garcillano purportedly about padding in the 2004 presidential elections count,

Aquino would then lead prayers in different churches in Metro Manila to reiterate this call for President Arroyo to resign.

Mrs. Aquino's remains is set to be buried in a private ceremony in Manila Memorial Park in Parañaque City on Wednesday.

MATAGAL NA NAMING alam na halos araw-araw nagpapadala ng mga pagkain sa nakaratay na dating pangulo sa Makati Medical Center ang pamilya Estrada.

Iba’t ibang putahe ‘yun na mismong sina dating Senadora Loi Ejercito at dating Pangulong Joseph Estrada ang nagpapaluto sa kanilang mga cook. Sa ganu’ng paraan, gusto nilang mabawasan ang intindihin ng pamilya. Napakabigat na nga namang problema ang situwasyon ni dating Pangulong Cory Aquino, kaya ayaw na nilang pati ang pagkain ng mga bisita at nagbabantay ay iintindihin pa ng magkakapatid.

Pero ayaw nilang ipasulat ang tungkol du’n. Palaging ganu’n ang pamilya, ang ginagawa ng kaliwa nilang kamay ay ayaw na nilang ipaalam pa sa kanan.

Nitong sumakabilang-buhay na si Tita Cory, saka lang lumabas ang kuwento. Si Kris Aquino ang nagsabi sa ere, hindi ang mga Estrada. Ayon kay Kris ay nagpapasalamat ang buo nilang pamilya sa mga Estrada na hindi nakalimot kahit nu’ng nasa ospital pa lang si Tita Cory.

“When my mom needed a friend, President Estrada was there,” eksaktong paglalarawan ni Kris sa dating pangulo.

Mahilig magluto si dating Pangulong Erap, at napakasarap niyang magluto, kabog na kabog niya ang kanyang maybahay na si Tita Loi.

At naging ugali na rin ng pamilya ang pagpapadala ng pagkain sa kanilang malalapit na kaibigan, isang ugaling nakuha ng magkakapatid na Estrada, tulad nina Senador Jinggoy at Captain Jude.

Kapag may nagdiriwang ng kaarawan na malapit sa pamilya, palaging sinasagot ng mag-asawang Senador Jinggoy at Precy Ejercito ang catering.

‘Yun ang kanilang toka, nagpapa-lechon pa sila ng baka at nagpapadala ng lechon sa may kaarawan, halatang-halata na mahilig talaga sila sa pagkain.

Pero hindi magpapakabog ang bunsong si Jude, ang madalas naman niyang ipadala sa malalapit niyang kaibigan ay baked macaroni, ang pagkasarap-sarap na pastang ginagawa ni Aling Paz (ilang dekada na nilang cook sa Polk) na sa paglalarawan ng mga nakakatikim ay nakakaadik.

Totoo naman kasing hahanap-hanapin mo ang lasa ng baked macaroni ng mga Estrada, hindi kasi nakakasawa ang lasa nito, pero tumitiim sa dila habang kinakain mo.

Kapag nagpapadala sa amin ng baked macaroni si Jude, ilang minuto pa lang ay parang dinilaan na ng gutom na pusa ang lalagyan. Marami na kaming natikmang pasta sa iba’t ibang restaurant pero kakaiba talaga ang baked mac ng mga Estrada.

NAPAKALAKI NG IBINAGSAK ng timbang ni Senador Jinggoy, pati ang kanyang mukha ay umimpis, kaya ang pakiramdam ngayon ni Precy ay pagkataba-taba nito kapag kasabay ang kanyang asawang senador.

Takal na takal na ang pagkain ngayon ng aktor-pulitiko. Gusto man niyang kumain pa, hindi na puwede. Bahagi ‘yun ng mga seremonyas ng kanyang pagpapapayat.

“Sakripisyong malaki ang pagpapapayat, pero okey lang, nai-inspire ako kapag nakikita kong bumaba na naman ang weight ko,” maigsing komento ni Senador Jinggoy.

Maraming ipinagdadamot sa kanya ngayon, bawal na siyang kumain ng lechon nang hanggang gusto niya, pero tinitiis ‘yun ng aktor-pulitiko dahil sa pinapangarap niyang timbang.

Relo at Kumot na bigay ni Kris Aquino, Gamit ni Cory Aquino sa kanyang Huling Sandali

ANG NAPANOOD SA buong episode ng The Buzz nu’ng Linggo ay sina Kuya Boy Abunda at Kris Aquino lang ang nasa set na live sa La Salle Greenhills, kung saan nakaburol ang ating dating Pangulong Cory Aquino.

Makabagbag-damdamin ang paglalahad ni Kris ng detalyadong naganap sa pagbabantay nilang magkakapatid sa kanilang ina sa hospital.

Nag-leave si Kris sa dalawang show niya sa ABS-CBN 2 para matututukan nang husto ang pagbabantay sa kanyang ina.

Ikinuwento niya sa The Buzz ang lahat ng naganap, kung sino ang mga pumunta pati ang hinaing nito sa pagbawi ng Malacañang sa dalawang loyal na bodyguards ni Tita Cory.

Nagpasalamat din si Kris kay Lorna Tolentino sa pagtitiyagang pagsagot sa mga tawag niya at pagpapaliwanag sa mga tanong ni Kris dahil sa mga pinagdaanan na rin ni LT sa pagbabantay nu’ng nakaratay si Kuya Rudy Fernandez sa hospital.

Sumabay na rin kami kay Kris sa pag-iyak lalo na nang ikinukuwento nito ang mga magagandang pahayag nito sa kanyang ina at kung gaano kahalaga sa kanya ang mga huling araw na ginugol niya sa kanyang ina.

Nagpapasalamat ito sa Diyos dahil binigyan sila ng sapat na panahong makasama at maalagaan nang husto ang kanyang ina.

Hindi kagaya ng kanyang ama na bigla na lang silang binalitaang pinaslang ang kanyang ama at hindi man lang daw ito nabigyan nang pagkakataong masabihan ang kanyang ama na mahal na mahal niya ito.

“I wanna say thank you to God kasi I was able to spoil Mom,” pahayag ni Kris sa gitna ng mga hikbi nito.

Ang isa pang maipupuri ni Kris sa kanyang ina ay walang patuloy na paghingi ng pasasalamat sa kanilang lahat.

Nakikita raw niyang masayang-masaya ang kanyang ina sa lahat ng pagmamahal na ipinakita sa kanya.

Lalo na sa kanilang mga anak, panay “thank you” raw ang sinasabi ng kanyang ina.

Doon ikinuwento ni Kris ang relong suot ng dating Pangulo na hanggang sa nalagutan ito ng hininga ay suot niya ito.

Nagtataka raw ang kanyang Ate Pinky bakit hindi nakakalimutang isuot ng kanilang Mommy itong relo. Kahit pagkatapos daw ng kanyang operasyon o chemotheraphy, kaagad na isinusuot daw ito ng kanyang ina.

“That was the first expensive gift I was able to give her with my earnings, and up to the time she died, suot niya ang relong ‘yun,” umiiyak na paglalahad ni Kris.

“Ganu’n niya pinaparamdam on how much she valued us and how proud she was of us,” patuloy nito.

Ikinuwento rin ni Kris na ang kumot at unan na gamit ng kanyang ina hanggang sa namatay ito ay kanya.

Ang strawberry shortcake blanket daw na gamit nito ay ginamit rin niya nu’ng ipinanganak niya si Baby James na muntik pa niyang ikinamatay.

MARAMING NAGKOKOMENTO NA sinusuwapang (ito ang terminong ginagamit ng mga pumupuna) ng ABS-CBN ang pagko-cover sa mga kaganapan sa pagyao ng unang babaeng pangulo ng Pilipinas.
Totoong malaking bentahe ng istasyon ang pagkakaroon ng anak ni dating Pangulong Corazon Aquino sa kanilang kuwadra. Napakabilis nilang makakuha ng mga detalye dahil kay Kris Aquino. Pero ang katuwiran ng marami, hindi lang naman naging pangulo ng Dos si Tita Cory kundi dating pangulo ng bansang Pilipinas.
Maihahanap ng katuwiran kung bakit mula sa pagsikat hanggang sa paglubog ng araw, nakatutok ang ABS-CBN sa lahat halos ng detalye tungkol sa pagpanaw ng dating Pangulong Cory.
Kung matatandaan, taong 1986 nang maluklok na siyang pangulo ng Pilipinas ay saka lang naibalik sa mga Lopez ang kanilang mga ari-arian at establisimyentong kinamkam ng rehimeng Marcos.

BIYERNES PA LANG nang gabi sa selebrasyon ng kaarawan ni Vic de Leon Lima, ramdam na sa paligid ang tensiyon at kalungkutan. Dapat sana’y puro halakhakan ang maririnig sa paligid dahil kaarawan ng broadcaster ang ipinagdiriwang, pero kapansin-pansin ang lungkot, dahil nu’ng mga sandaling ‘yun, nakarating na sa tropa ng DZMM ang pagdidiliryo ni dating Pangulong Corazon Aquino.

Pero ‘yun ang paghihintay na parang walang may gustong dumating. May mga nagsabing sana nga ay huwag nang maghirap pa ang dating pangulo. Pero alam mo na sa likod ng kanilang isip, ekstensiyon pa rin ng buhay ni Tita Cory ang kanilang hiling.

Taas-baba na ang blood pressure ni Tita Cory, hindi na regular ang kanyang pulse rate, sama-sama nang nagrorosaryo sa kanyang tabi sina Ballsy, Viel, Pinky at Kris.

Umuwi lang sandali si Senador Noynoy dahil maayos daw naman ang blood pressure ni Tita Cory. Pero hindi pa halos nagtatagal sa kanyang bahay ang senador, pinagmamadali na itong bumalik sa Makati Medical Center.

Alas tres disiotso nang madaling-araw pumanaw ang unang babaeng pangulo ng ating bayan, sa kasabihan ng matatanda, ang pinakamagandang oras ng pamamaalam ng isang mamamatay.

Ilang beses nang nagdelikado ang buhay ni Tita Cory, pero para namang sinadya na hinintay pa muna niyang mag-Agosto, bago niya hinugot ang kanyang huling hininga.

Sa kasaysayan, Agosto 21, 1983 nang paslangin si dating Senador Ninoy Aquino, ang dahilan kung bakit umuwi sa bansa si Tita Cory at ang kanilang mga anak mula sa Boston.

NU’NG UNA NAMING marinig ang balitang namayapa na ang dating pangulo, si Joshua Phillip agad ang pumasok sa aming isip. Si Josh, ang anak nina Phillip Salvador at Kris Aquino, dahil sa madalas naming pagkukuwentuhan noon ni Kris ay si Josh ang palaging iniintindi ni Tita Cory.

Natatandaan pa naming kuwento ni Kris, “My mom is very much concerned about Josh, gusto niyang paghandaan ko na ang paglaki ni Josh, siya talaga ang iniintindi ng mommy ko.”

NAGLULUKSA ANG BUONG bayan sa pagyao ni Tita Cory. Pati ang panahon ay nakikidalamhati sa kanyang pagkamatay. Parang burol din ng kanyang asawa ang nagaganap ngayon sa La Salle Greenhills Gym dahil nagdaratingan mula sa malalayong probinsiya ang mga kababayan nating gustong magbigay ng huling pagsilip at pagrespeto sa kanya.

Masakit man, napakaganda ng paghahatid kay Tita Cory ng ating mga kababayan sa nakatakda niyang pag-alis sa Miyerkules, kakambal niya ang respeto at pagmamahal ng buong sambayanan sa kanyang pagbiyahe, mabibilang sa mga daliri ang mga pulitikong namamaalam na hindi kinakalimutan ng kasaysayan.

Sariwa pa rin kasi sa isip ng ating mga kababayan ang naganap nu’ng People Power. Nakilahok ang mga Pinoy sa pagpapatalsik sa diktaturyang Marcos para iluklok ang unang babaeng tagapamuno ng ating bayan.

Iniluklok at kusang bumaba sa kanyang puwesto si Tita Cory na malinis sa kuwento ng katiwalian. Walang dahilan para siya maghugas-kamay dahil wala siyang maruruming kamay na huhugasan sa pagsasalin niya ng posisyon.

Walang nasayang na panahon si Tita Cory. Nu’ng hindi na siya pangulo, aktibo pa rin siya sa pakikilahok sa mga rally kapag kapakanan na ng bayan ang nakataya sa usapin.

Hanggang sa pakikibaka sa colon cancer, ipinakita ni Tita Cory ang katapangan. Nu’ng unang araw pa lang na nalaman niyang stage four na ang kanyang sakit, maluwag sa loob niyang tinanggap ang resulta ng kanyang check-up. Sinabi niya na ang kalooban ng Panginoon ang masusunod.

Taong 2004, walang-wala pa sa hinagap ng pamilya ang sakit na colon cancer, ay nagsulat na ng isang dasal si Tita Cory. Ang pamagat ng dasal, “A Prayer for a Happy Death.”

Nakapaloob sa kanyang dasal-hiling ang taos-puso niyang pasasalamat sa Diyos sa lahat ng biyayang ipinagkaloob sa kanya, nandu’n din ang kanyang hiling para sa kanyang mga anak.

Pero ang pinakasentro ng dasal ay ang matinding pananampalataya niya sa Panginoon na naging manibela ng kanyang buhay sa lahat ng panahon.

Despite alternate trickles of rain and glaring sunlight, around 7,000 supporters of the late former President Corazon Aquino continued to flock her wake at the Manila Cathedral on Tuesday.

"Mga 7,000 yan, iba pa dun sa 7,000 kahapon, pero come and go sila (They are about 7,000, that's a 7,000 from yesterday, but they come and go," Manila Police District head Chief Superintendent Rodolfo Magtibay told GMANews.

Public viewing at the Manila Cathedral started Monday after the remains of Mrs. Aquino arrived at the church from La Salle Greenhills in Mandaluyong City. It resumed past 9 p.m. after a scheduled Mass.

The viewing stopped again at 4 a.m. Tuesday but later resumed at 7 a.m.



Magtibay said the large number of mourners has caused the line for the public viewing to reach the San Agustin Church, also in Intramuros.

"Lagpas-lagpasan na yung linya (The lines are way past the Manila Cathedral)," said Magtibay.

But well-wishers of the democracy icon refuse to give up on the opportunity to see her for the last time.

"Anga haba-haba ng pila, grabe lang, pero okay lang basta makita ko siya, (The line is so long, but it's all okay if I get to see her)," said 26-year-old Mae after seeing the line of people patiently awaiting their turn to see Mrs. Aquino.

Magtibay said they still have 1,000 men deployed around the Manila Cathedral for area, route, and traffic security.

After a 9 a.m. Mass Wednesday, Mrs. Aquino’s body will be brought to the Manila Memorial Park in Parañaque City for interment.

Magtibay, however, said that they will not have any additional security measures for the funeral.

"Ineexpect namin dadami tao pero same lang idedeploy namin (We do expect that there would be more people tomorrow but we will still deploy the same number of people)," he said.

Mrs. Aquino – who was diagnosed with colon cancer in March last year - died at the Makati Medical Center on Saturday 3:18 a.m. due to cardiorespiratory arrest.

Senator Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III said his mother will be buried beside the remains of his father, the late Senator Benigno Aquino Jr., who was assassinated upon his arrival in Manila from the United States on Aug. 21, 1983.

MANILA - President Arroyo will pay her last respects to former President Corazon “Cory” Aquino who succumbed to colon cancer early Saturday.

According to Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita, Mrs. Arroyo will arrive in Manila on Wednesday, the scheduled internment of the late president.

It was not clear though if Mrs. Arroyo will proceed to the Manila Cathedral once her plane lands at 5 a.m. or if she will attend the burial at the Manila Memorial Park in Parañaque.

Mrs. Arroyo was in Washington DC when Aquino passed away last Saturday. She immediately declared a 10-day period of national mourning from August 1 to 10. Mrs. Arroyo also declared August 5, the day of Aquino’s burial, as a special non-working holiday to give the Filipino people the chance to honor the late president.

Press Secretary Cerge Remonde said the president is “very sincere about her condolences”.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Arroyo also ordered an investigation, following the revelation of Aquino’s youngest daughter, Kris, that the government pulled out the security detail of her mother while she was still alive and battling colon cancer.

Ermita clarified that the security assigned to Aquino was not totally recalled but temporarily returned to its mother unit.

Remonde, who was with the First Couple in the US, said the news about the pullout has “taken us by a complete surprise”.

“We would like to apologize to the Aquino family for anguish or concern it has brought them. It was never intentional on our part,” Remonde said, adding that the president already ordered an investigation into the incident.

Wowowee Host "Willie Revillame" nag Apologized sa pagtanggal ng Cory Aquino's Live Streaming sa Right Side ng TV Screen

MANILA – “Wowowee” host Willie Revillame on Tuesday apologized on television after he drew criticisms for ordering the removal of the live streaming of former President Corazon Aquino’s procession from his show.

“Sa sitwasyon na ito, kung may nasaktan ako, I'm sorry. Sa pamilya Aquino, alam ng buong pamilya Aquino [na] wala akong masamang intention doon,” Revillame said in his show on Tuesday.

He added: “Ayaw ko pong nagsasaya tayo dito, mayroon tayong labi na nakikita sa TV.”

On Monday a visibly irked Revillame asked to stop the airing of Mrs. Aquino’s cortege from La Salle Green Hills to Manila Cathedral, which was being beamed live simultaneously with the noontime show.

The controversial host explained that it was inappropriate to broadcast it while they were having fun inside the studio. He added that it would be hard for him to make the public happy when he could see on screen the casket of Mrs. Aquino.

"Paano kami makakapagsaya [kung] nahihirapan kami? Huwag niyo akong papagalitan kasi totoo ang sinasabi ko. Pagkatapos ng show, ipakita niyo ang gusto niyong ipalabas. Kasi itong ‘Wowowee’ gusto ko, at alam din ni Tita Cory dahil napasaya rin siya ng show na ito, [dapat] laging masaya dito," Revillame said.

His staff immediately removed the live streaming from the screen.

‘Utterly disrespectful’

Revillame’s action drew instant criticisms. In their Facebook accounts, some people branded it as “utterly disrespectful,” “really bad,” and “damn stupid.”

“He has the gall to say that on national TV!?!?!?!?! He's beyond himself,” one wrote.

Another said: “He thinks he's all that.”

No bad intention

On Tuesday, Revillame defended himself by saying that prior to the incident, he called ABS-CBN entertainment production head Linggit Tan asking her to remove the live streaming.

He told Tan that he does not want to come across as someone without a conscience.

“Nakakahiya. Sabi ko, ‘ako ang nakaharap sa camera. Sa akin magagalit.’ Nagsasaya [ako]. Akala niyo wala akong konsensiya,” he said.

He said he only reacted after he saw the funeral procession again on the screen.

He also divulged that before the airing of his Monday show, he even told ABS-CBN management that he was willing to give way to the liveof Mrs. Aquino’s funeral.

The host appealed for the understanding of the public.

“Uulitin ko po, wala akong kinakatakutan sa pangyayaring ‘yan. Wala po akong mali sa ginawa ko, dahil in my heart and in my soul, malaki po ang respeto ko sa pamilya Aquino at kay Tita Cory,” he said.
