GMA Launches 60th Anniversary Network ID

Posted/Original/Published By: STARtriga.blogspot.com

The highly-anticipated network ID of GMA-7 with the title “Tagumpay ng Kapuso” is set to premiere tomorrow, May 30, on Party Pilipinas.

When GMA Network began as a fledgling radio station in the 1950s, it would have been difficult to imagine the media giant it would eventually become. Operating from a rented unit at the Calvo Building in Escolta, its equipment consisted of a microphone, a turntable, and a surplus AM transmitter. There were no scripts, no cameras, no teleprompters. And when the radio station later became a TV station, moving its headquarters to a small building on EDSA, it broadcasted from simple studios devoid of color and stereo sound.

This year, as an industry leader celebrating its 60th year, GMA remembers the past, celebrates today, and looks forward to scaling greater heights in the future.

EXCLUSIVE HERE FIRST READ:Roger Mayweather talks Pacquiao, Sergio Martinez, Andre Berto and Floyd’s future

Posted/Original/Published By: STARtriga.blogspot.com

Roger Mayweather (Photo: Paul Hernandez)

The atmosphere inside of Floyd Mayweather’s personal gym in Las Vegas has certainly changed. In the months of March and April the facility was practically locked down as the Grand Rapids native trained rigorously for his May 1st bout with Shane Mosley amongst family members, fellow fighters, and other supporters but a visit to the building today showed how much things have slowed down.

Mayweather would go on to defeat Mosley by way of dominant decision and has since been flying under the radar. The tone inside has obviously changed, as his bodyguards are now gone and the gym is more welcoming to the public. Earlier today Floyd’s uncle and trainer Roger Mayweather could be found and he had much to discuss, starting with the victory over ‘Sugar’ Shane.

“Mosley got his ass whipped,” Roger boasted. “He got whipped every round but one. That’s the only round he won was the round he hit my nephew. But it’s no big thing because you gotta understand my nephew can take it and dish it out. The whole thing of it is that he had been absent from the ring almost two years and it just showed what he could take. That’s what boxing is all about.”

For Roger the beat is always the same, whether or not Floyd has a big bout on the horizon. Boxing is what he has known best for nearly all of his life and the element of training extends far beyond coaching one of the world’s premier talents.

“It’s no problem,” Roger claimed. “My days are all the same whether Floyd is here or he isn’t here. I go to the gym, I come here, and I train kids who don’t even know anything about boxing. There doesn’t have to be a fighter in here for me to come and train. That’s just what I do. It doesn’t matter who comes. That’s just part of teaching.”

During Floyd’s last camp Roger could be found further building upon his bond with his 5-year old son Lehkei. After doing interviews and shortly before Floyd’s arrival during a mid-April training day Roger and Lehkei hit the mitts together and the youngster displayed some serious skill. When asked if boxing was something that he tried to guide his son into Roger simply shook his head.

“I don’t try to get him into boxing,” Roger stated. “He likes boxing. When he comes into the gym that’s what he likes to do. Since he likes boxing I am there to show him and that’s the best way to teach sometimes. He’s around the sport and knows all about it.”

As the conversation continued Roger opened up about his love for his family and all of the fighters he has worked with, including Laila Ali, Vernon Forrest, and Joan Guzman. Roger went on to state his beliefs that Team Mayweather will be focused no matter who the next opponent is but didn’t try to hide his belief of the one bout that everyone wants.

“I know the next fight that everybody wants it to be,” Roger said. “Of course the only fight that makes sense is him and [Manny] Pacquiao. Pacquiao is going to get his ass whipped just like Shane Mosley. It’s actually going to be much easier. Any time a guy doesn’t want to take a drug test it tells you a lot about a guy. If the fight doesn’t come off it’s because he doesn’t want to take that test. If the fight doesn’t come off it won’t be because Floyd turned the fight down.”

Following his victory over Mosley it appeared that Mayweather was open to the thought of moving up two divisions and tackling recently crowned Middleweight champion Sergio Martinez, who defeated Kelly Pavlik in an inspirational performance last month. Outside of a Pacquiao clash that fight in particular seems to make the most sense yet Roger doesn’t appear to see the danger surrounding it that others might.

“Weight doesn’t win fights, skills do,” Roger pointed out. “If weight won fights James Toney wouldn’t have become the heavyweight champion of the world. Michael Spinks wouldn’t have become the heavyweight champion of the world. Skills pay the bills. Anytime a guy has weight, sure it makes things a little harder but fights are won by skills. Floyd is the most skilled fighter in the sport, period.”

Another fighter chomping at the bit to get in the mix is undefeated WBC Welterweight champion Andre Berto. The Haitian-American was in line to face Mosley earlier this year but withdrew from the contest due to the devastation that he suffered from the January 12th earthquake on his native land. Despite the 26-year old’s urges Roger seems to dismiss the notion of a Berto fight, noting that Floyd’s motives are on a different level.

“He was scared to fight Shane Mosley so what is he going to do with Floyd? Why didn’t he fight Shane Mosley? He had a fight with Shane Mosley but he didn’t even take it. Maybe he wants to fight Floyd because he’s after that money. Whatever makes money makes sense. Everybody wants a payday. Floyd isn’t fighting for a payday, he’s fighting to win.”

VIDEO EXCLUSIVE: The Tado vs. Vice Ganda Controversy Showtime (05/24/10 episode)

Posted/Original/Published By: STARtriga.blogspot.com

When you rise to the top, controversies surely follow you. That’s exactly what’s happening to Vice Ganda right now. With all the success, people will and do try to divert your focus. Here’s an example.

Watch the video and see who’s right and who’s wrong. Was Vice Ganda’s reaction to Tado’s remark about “kabaklaan” improper? The heated exchange has now reached Twitter and Facebook. According to reports, Vice Ganda is not demanding an apology from Tado.

The Ladlad Party has already posted the video as well because of Tado’s offensive remark about gays.

Apparently, comments such as “Buti na ang magnakaw, kaysa mamakla” from Tado infuriated Vice Ganda. I would have been offended as well and probably respond quite defensively.

“Todo Na” is the carrier single the self self-titled debut album of the swanky all-male voice band VOIZboys made up of Jay-R Siaboc, Guji Lorenzana, Nico Antonio, and Tom Rodriguez under Quantum Music as distributed by Star Records! Launching on May 29 at Zirkoh Tomas Morato in an all-night party dubbed as “Fusion” starting at 9pm, VOIZboys hums it up to the max! Pokwang, Saicy Aguila, Carol Leus, and The Rainmakers guest with Arpie and the Multivitamins Band supplying the live music.

All Star Magic premium talents and “ASAP XV” performers, love for music with a common passion for performing made Johnny “Mr. M” Manahan of Star Magic and “ASAP XV” organize VOIZboys, a music diversity waiting to happen. He says VOIZboys is a fit-in-one music sensation, “We put the boys together to generate additional exposure and interest for the artists. Salamat na lang at swak na swak silang apat.”

Guji and Jay-R are into rock, Nico into ballads while Tom does pop music. Imagine the creative energy when different musical backgrounds and styles are put together into VOIZboys. The willingness to share and accept each other allows an extraordinary fusion that uniquely shapes and happens only in VOIZboys.

JR siaboc

Twenty-three year old Jay-R’s excellent singing skills were honed up by the best performance mentors including Joey Reyes, Kitchie Molina, and Monet Silvestre when he joined “Pinoy Dream Academy (Season 1)” as a scholar and come out first runner-up. Jay-R comes from a marginalized family from Cebu who made something of himself in the big city. As part of his prize as winner, his manly Pinoy appeal allowed him to branch out into acting in such ABS-CBN drama series such as “Pangarap na Bituin,” “Palos,” “Kapitan Boom,” and “Kambal sa Uma.”

guji

Twenty-seven year old US-raised Guji is a TVC model turned Mellow Touch 94.7 DJ and alternative singer. His singing, acting and dancing skills bagged him a role in the Trumpets production of West Side Story with Karylle and Christian Bautista. Guji's notable works include releasing three indie albums (“Five Days More,” “Guji Lorenzana,” and “Without Your Love”). This led to his nomination as Best Male Performer for the 2008 Awit Awards. A member of Star Magic Batch 16, he appeared with Kaye Abad in Book 6 of “Precious Hearts Romances Presents Bud Brothers” and did cameos in movies like “Babe, I Love U” and “Miss You Like Crazy.”

nico antonio

Twenty-six year old Nico comes from a clan of scientists and lawyers and a musically inclined uncle, who himself was part of the ‘70s quartet The Rainmakers. Ateneo-educated, he’s now a fourth term San Sebastian College law student He had appeared in the award-winning films “Minsan Pa,” “Kubrador,” and “Ang Laro ng Buhay ni Juan.” In “Biyaheng Lupa,” he sings the theme song “Kahit Isang Saglit.” His singing skill bagged him a role in Chito Rono’s P50-million original musical film Emir, which will screen after Chris Martinez’s “Here Comes The Bride” and before Kim Garcia’s “Magkakapatid” where Nico has important roles. He will also be seen in a drama series, soon to be launched on ABS-CBN.

tom rodriguez

And 22-year-old Tom, the “Pinoy Big Brother Double Up” housemate, was born in Samar and raised in the US. He looks like the Greek representation of an extremely good-looking male Adonis. With the right facial and physical features, he commands presence and has the ability to sing. He made his acting debut with Jake Cuenca and Christine Reyes in “Precious Hearts Romance: My Cheating Heart,” followed by a starrer with Valerie Concepcion in “Love Me Again.” He plays Angelica Panganiban’s groom in “Here Comes the Bride.” Tom is predicted to be a big star.

The VOIZboys are launching their 10-track album with six group songs and four solo numbers (with the rest of the members doing chorus) using seven original songs and three revivals. It has two new Vehnee Saturno compositions, “Sinta” and Jay-R’s solo number “Kakaiba Ka,” Joven Tan’s “Todo Na,” and Tom’s solo vehicle “Pwede Na,” Yugel Losorata’s “Stop the World,” Lucien Letaba’s “Anghel Ko” which serves as Guji’s solo contribution, and Jojo Panaligan’s “In Love Again.” Two songs by Mon Villanueva of The Rainmakers, “You and Me” & “Maria Clara” plus a song by Louie Ocampo & Ogie Alcasid, “Sana’y Malaman Mo” which serves as Nico’s solo medium, are revivals.

With this concert cum album launch, VOIZboys will keep you breathless with performances as a group. Each crew will do a meaningful solo spot. The irrepressible Pokwang will keep the house roaring with her special participation, making it a night of great music and fun, fun, and more fun!

Boys will be boys. Experience VOIZboys’ kind of music.

Mga Pop Girls, Jejemonbusters!

Posted/Original/Published By: STARtriga.blogspot.com

jejemonsPop is the cut word for popular, a term for whatever is popular with the youth, usually applied to pop music to separate it from folk, jazz, and classic music.

Pop Girls, the five-member girl band made up of twins Lai and Mar, 17, Rose, 14, Schai, 15, and Nadine, 16, is the fresh endorser of Sisters Feminine Napkins. Each of the girls posseses overwhelming charm, style, and talent that made them standout. As it is, the Pop Girls is against the Jejemons, young texters who spell words differently as some sort of clique lingo like gayspeak for gay people.

The Pop Girls has just released a 13-track debut album under Viva Records. It is said that with the advent of the girls on the scene, P-Pop is born to rival Korea’s K-Pop and Japan’s J-Pop. P-Pop songs will mirror the colorful life of the young with themes such as puppy love, shopping, dancing and basically having fun. These are themes that Sisters Feminine Napkins promotes, too, by giving female teenagers the comfort and protection they need, where and when it counts every month, to allow them to celebrate their identity as emerging adults.

Shai speaks her mind during the Pop Girls’ launch at City Best Restaurant on Tomas Morato Ave., “May normal naman pong way ng pagsusulat, so bakit ko iibahin pa yong spelling? Nakaka-confuse.”

A GMA7 report explained the Jejemons’ way of spelling: “Jejemon's etymology was supposed to have started from online users' penchant to type in ‘hehehe’ as ‘jejeje,’ either because ‘jeje’ is derived from Spanish, whose speakers denote the interjection as laughter, or because the letters ‘h’ and ‘j’ are beside each other, and that it is appended by ‘-mon’ that came from the Japanese anime PokĂ©mon, with ‘-mon’ meant as ‘monster,’ hence ‘jeje monsters.’”

No matter how it murders English or Pilipino, the Jejemons is but a continuation of the youth’s fascination with pop. In the case of Pop Girls, members are Jejemonbusters or people who are against the Jejemon craze. At least the Pop Girls is true to themselves. The songs in their self-titled debut album including the carrier single “Crazy Crazy” have lyrics in correct English and Pilipino.

The girl group also fits the bill as Sisters Feminine Napkins’ endorsers for having members who are wholesome and well-educated not only in their music but in personality and lifestyle as well. It is recalled that since 2009, Sisters Feminine Napkins has brought its endorser Maja Salvador and other female celebrities around the country to promote positive moral values and success ethics among the youth.

Through the effort spearheaded by Sisters and Pop Girls, the Filipino youth achievers are given due recognition to inspire them to excel more and become excellent individuals who, in the future, can contribute greatly to the success of the Filipino nation.

The Sisters Feminine Napkins tour included stops in Mindoro, Dagupan, Cavite, Pampanga, Lucena, Batangas and Laguna, among others. Maja and some GMA Artist Center talents like Isabel Oli, Chynna Hortaleza and Arci Munoz gave away certificates of recognition and gifts from Sisters to exemplary youth achievers in high schools.

Sisters Feminine Napkins is the country’s leading reasonably priced feminine napkins. Megasoft Corp. led by young couple Emilio and Aileen Go, owns the brand. Sisters Feminine Napkins is fast becoming a preferred choice.

Carla Abellana, na-challenge sa kanyang bagong role

Posted/Original/Published By: STARtriga.blogspot.com via @igma.tv

starsMuling nagbabalik-tambalan sina Carla Abellana at Geoff Eigenmann sa kanilang latest project, ang ‘Sinenovela Presents: Mars Ravelo’s Basahang Ginto’. Ano kaya ang pakiramdam ni Carla about working with Geoff again, at nakakaramdam kaya siya ng pressure sa kanyang pagganap bilang Orang? Text by Karen de Castro. Photo by Mitch Mauricio.

“It’s my most challenging role, it’s my most difficult role,” says Carla.

“Lahat sila excited makita kami. Masaya sila na makikita kaming magkasama pa rin sa TV so very thankful naman kami sa network.”

Wala naman kayang sawa factor na kasama ngayong makakatrabaho niya ulit si Geoff, na ilang beses na rin niyang nakakatambal?

“So far wala pa naman. Natutuwa ako that I get to work with him again kasi kailangan ko ito e,” she reveals. “Kasi kapag something big na ganito na challenge sa akin, maganda na partner ko si Geoff kasi nakasanayan ko na siyang makatrabaho and tulungan talaga kaming dalawa. So in short, I need him at this point in my life.”

She adds, “He makes my work easy. Hindi ko dinedeny na I get my strength from Geoff.

So there’s really not much difference,” answered Carla.

Talagang nandiyan yung pressure.”

VICE GANDA AT TADO's WORD WAR INVADED SHOWTIME! GO VICE!

Posted/Original/Published By: STARtriga.blogspot.com via @starmometer.com

The clash of the two judges on Showtime who are both comedians is the “talk of the town” on Facebook and Twitter.

The word war between Vice Ganda and Tado during the Monday edition of Showtime will surely boost the rating of the talent variety show even more and increase the sales of Tado’s “Limitado T-Shirts.”

Here’s the sitch: Vice Ganda reacted emotionally to Tado‘s remark about gays during the live episode of Showtime last May 24, Monday morning.

Here’s the transcript of the controversial scene featuring the exchange of words between Vice Ganda and Tado:

TADO: “Lahi ng mga matatapang [pertaining to the contestants]. Di bumagay ang pangalan n’yo sa performance n’yo kasi parang pang-gay ung [hums] nye nye nye nye.”

VICE GANDA: “Ano namang masama sa pang-gay? May problema ka ba sa mga bakla, Tado?”

TADO: “Hindi naman. Just read my shirt.”

VICE GANDA: “Ano nakalagay?

Tado ceased exchanging words with Vice Ganda and shifted his focus on the contestants. But Vice Ganda could not move on and continued his remarks about the “gay” issue.

“Naapektuhan talaga ako sa sinabi ni Tado. Gusto ko lang maging totoo. At gusto ko lang itaas hindi lang ang sarili ko kundi lahat ng baklang nabubuhay sa mundo… At pati na rin lahat ng mga magulang na may anak na bakla, gusto ko lang sabihin sa kanila na walang nakakahiya sa pagiging bakla,” Vice Ganda said.

In the latter part of the show, Vice Ganda continued his bickering.

“…taga Marikina ka pala Tado…kumandidato ka pala diyan?” Vice Ganda asked his co-judge.

“Muntikan na manalo…”, Tado replied.

“Oo di ka pala nanalo. Ngayon alam na namin kung bakit,” Vice Ganda added. He even called Tado “bastos” n one part of the show.

Due to the “word war” incident, netizens are now expressing their opinions via Facebook and Twitter. A significant amount of people sympathize with Tado and in their opinion, what Vice Ganda did was an overkill.

A certain Lance Valenzuela said on Vice Ganda’s Facebook fanpage: “Saludo ako sau Tado kaw pa ang nagsorry kay Vice..nag iloveu pa… GO tado…wala pla talaga sa itsura yan… thumbs up ako sau Tado…”

Rovie Viel Santiago-Lunas said “VICE THIS IS FOUL. tsk tsk.

At eto ang panalong comment from David Capagal

TO VICE GANDA AND TADO: “Kahit anumang problema, may solusyon. Ang problema, pwedeng pwedeng pagtawanan-pero ‘di pwedeng talikuran! Harapin mo FACE TO FACE! – AMY PEREZ”

MANILA, Philippines – Robin Padilla is leaving popular noontime show “Wowowee” with a heavy heart.

The action star, who is set to step down from his hosting job on Friday, admitted that it will not be easy to say goodbye to the “Wowowee” staff and the show’s viewers.

“Malungkot din kasi naiba na ‘yong buhay ko dito sa ‘Wowowee,’” Padilla said. “Lalong lumalim [ang] pagmamahal [ko] sa mga naghihikahos [nating] mga kababayan.”

Although he is not closing his doors to hosting “Wowowee” full time if Revillame decides to permanently leave the show, Padilla reiterated that Revillame should return to the program.

He also wished that Revillame and Jobert Sucaldito will be able to iron things out before he leaves the show.

“Titingnan po natin ang mga susunod na pangyayari…. Sana bago ako matapos sa Biyernes ay hawak ko na ang balikat ng dalawa. ‘Yon lang ang pangarap ko,” he said.

When asked what he plans to do during his last 4 days on the show, Padilla replied: “Marami po kayong mga sayawan na makikita at kantang ihahandog. Gusto ko din siyempreng magbigay ng handog kay Liezl (Sicangco, Padilla’s former wife). Magbigay ng awit. Abangan ninyo po.”

Willie Revillame Resigns from “Wowowee” EXCLUSIVE LETTER FROM WILLIES IS HERE CAN READ!

Posted/Original/Published By: STARtriga.blogspot.com

Willie Revillame

Main man of popular noontime show in the Philippines “Wowowee” made a decision concerning his stand whether to return or resign.

Revillame decided to take hiatus from ABS-CBN by submitting a letter addressed to the big bosses of the network.

Ricky Lo, writer and columnist of The Philippine Star featured Willie along with his letter. The source of the letter was not revealed by the columnist for privacy purposes.

12 May 2010

MR. EUGENIO LOPEZ, III

Chairman of the Board

ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp.

Mo. Ignacia Ave., Quezon City

Through: Ms. Charo Santos-Concio

President

ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp.

Dear Sir Gabby and Ma’am Charo,

I have labored over the past week on what to do in the face of another setback in my relations with the management of the network. ABS-CBN has been my home for the last five years and five months and it has given me the greatest gift – the opportunity to reach out to people who have so little in life.

In the process, I have come to realize that my gratitude to the network would be more meaningful if I considered the impact of my recent actions which has placed the station in a bad light. This is among the reasons, as I will explain in this letter, that I humbly request the management, to release me as a talent of the network. (Willie’s contract is good for one year and a half more. — RFL)

It is no secret that the program “Wowowee,” for almost five and a half years, has been the core of my existence. The program gives me a sense of purpose because I make people happy and I give them hope that, despite their difficulties, they can make things happen for themselves. Because of this, my world has revolved around the show. The desire to make it the best noontime show, has consumed my waking hours, as I conceptualize its format and contents from Monday to Saturday. Apart from this, I want the show to give the network excellent ratings to maintain its reputation as the leader in the broadcasting industry.

My devotion to the show is unparalleled that I have even been besieged by health problems due to the long hours I spend daily, thinking of how to bring “Wowowee” closer to the public. In fact, I have developed a heart blockage, which has already once posed a real threat to my life. I have sacrificed so much. Now, I have to accept the reality that I also have to take good care of my health.

Hence, it is very painful to hear every time my show is the target of unwanted and unnecessary tirades. I do not think that these people even have the slightest clue of what I go through to put together a show like “Wowowee”’. The show is not for me, but for those people who dream of a better life. Is it too much to ask that we be respected for what we do? Is it too much to ask that we be defended from such attacks?

My outburst last week during the live presentation of the show is nothing more than a reflection of my frustration over these things, and was not at all meant to disrespect the network and its management. I implore you to understand that several incidents, which were beyond my control which have marred the reputation of the show to some extent, have already taken their toll on me.

There was the “Wilyonaryo” incident wherein we were accused of deceiving contestants about their winnings; the Ultra stampede wherein I was blamed and severely criticized; the misunderstanding about my remarks when the coverage of the funeral of the late Pres. Corazon Aquino was unexpectedly shown in the giling-giling portion of “Wowowee”’s airing, for which I have apologized. In all these incidents, I took responsibility even if I was not at fault.

I do not want to cause any further embarrassment to the network. I know that all these have caused so much strain on our relations and I would like to save the situation by asking that I be released as a talent of the station. This way, I will have the much-needed space and time to contemplate on my direction in life and, at the same time, maintain the relationships I have built within the network, which are all worth preserving.

Before I end this letter, I would like to express my sincerest gratitude to all the important people I have had the good fortune to work with during the years I have been with ABS-CBN.

There will never be enough words to express my gratitude to all of you…

Salamat at mabuhay po kayong lahat!

Respectfully yours,

— Willie B. Revillame
