Young JV's 'DOIN' IT BIG' album now available ft Your Name w/ Myrtle!

Popular R&B singer Young JV is bringing a new sound and unique music styles in his debut album under Star Records aptly titled “Doin’ It Big.”
According to the singer-actor, who also performs in ABS-CBN’s top-rating Sunday musical variety show “ASAP 2012,” his first album in his new recording label is extra-special for him as it presents the listeners everything that he can do as an artist.
“We worked on it for a year and we basically did a lot of styles of music that the youth and young adults will surely appreciate–from hip hop, R&B, acoustic, house, and more. And through it, I was able to shows my different emotions,” said Young JV, who starred in a number of teleseryes and was part of Sarah Geronimo and Gerald Anderson’s blockbuster movie hit “Won’t Last A Day Without You.”
Produced by Star Records and Doin’ It Big Productions, “Doin’ It Big” features 10 tracks including its carrier single-turned-dance-craze ‘Your Name’ which Young JV sang with Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition 4 big winner Myrtle Sarrosa. Also part of the album are his special collaborations ‘Boy Meets Girl’ with Yeng Constantino, ‘Alay’ with Akiko, ‘Rock This Town’ with Laze and Yumi, and ‘Hurts So Bad’ with Karylle. Completing the tracklist are ‘Get Up And Dance,’ ‘Kailan Kaya,’ ‘Tanong,’ ‘Got To Have You,’ and ‘Pinas.’

Philippines' Cyber Crime Law takes effect today, October 3!

The Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 takes effect today, October 3, after the Supreme Court (SC) did not issue a temporary restraining order (TRO) or writ of preliminary injunction on the implementation of assailed provisions of the controversial legislation.
According to well-placed ABS-CBN sources, discussions on the petitions filed against Republic Act No. 10175 and applications for the issuance of a TRO or injunctive writ were instead reset to next Tuesday's en banc session.
Atty. Maria Victoria Gleoresty Sp. Guerra, acting chief of the SC Public Information Office, confirmed this later in the day.
She said in a statement that the petitions "are up for further study."
This, however, does not mean the high court will no longer restrain the implementation of the assailed provisions.
On several occasions, TROs or injunctive writs were issued after several en banc discussions, or after the holding of oral arguments.
Velasco to write ponencia
Seven petitions have been lodged with the high court, so far, against RA No. 10175 by Louis Biraogo, Disini, et al., ALAM party list, Sen. Teofisto Guingona III, Adonis, et al., Rep. Palatino, et al., and Bayan et al.
The petitions have been consolidated and reportedly assigned to Associate Justice Presbitero Velasco Jr. as writer of decision or ponente.
Collectively, the provisions of the law they want declared unconstitutional are the following:
-- Sec. 4 (a)(3), which includes data interference, defined as "the intentional or reckless alteration, damaging, deletion or deterioration of computer data, electronic document, or electronic data message, without right, including the introduction or transmission of viruses," in the list of cybercrime offenses;
-- Sec. 4(b)(3), which lists computer-related identity theft, defined as the intentional acquisition, use, misuse, transfer, possession, alteration or deletion of identifying information belonging to another, as one of computer-related offenses;
-- Sec. 4(c)(4), which criminalizes libel, not only on the internet, but also on "any other similar means which may be devised in the future;"
-- Sec. 5(a)(b), which identifies other offenses punishable under the law, such as: (a) Aiding or Abetting in the Commission of Cybercrime; and (b) Attempt in the Commission of Cybercrime;
-- Sec. 6, which raises by one degree higher the penalties provided for by the Revised Penal Code for all crimes committed through and with the use of information and communications;
-- Sec. 7, which provides that, apart from prosecution under the law, any person charged for the alleged offense covered will not be spared from violations of the Revised Penal Code and other special laws;
-- Sec. 12, which authorizes the real-time collection of traffic data;
-- Sec. 17, which authorizes service providers and law enforcement agencies to "completely destroy the computer data subject of a preservation and examination" order;
-- Sec. 19, which authorizes the DOJ to block access to computer data when such data "is prima facie found to be in violation of the provisions of this Act;" and
-- Sec. 20, which states that those who fail to comply with provisions of Chapter IV (Enforcement and Implementation), specifically orders from law enforcement agencies, shall face imprisonment of prision correctional (6 months and 1 day to 6 years) in its maximum period or a fine of P100,000 or both, for each noncompliance.
RA 10175 was signed into law by President Benigno Aquino on Sept. 12.
10 justices present
Guerra said Tuesday's en banc session had a quorum with 10 justices present.

OMB Chair Ricketts, “Walang Hanggan” cast send clear message: “Bawal Kumopya”

“Piracy is wrong.”
There is no ifs and buts about it. Philippine Optical Media Board (OMB) Chair Ronnie Ricketts explained it in simple terms: “Since we were students, we’ve been taught not to copy what is not ours – quiz and homework answers, ideas, projects and the like. That is essentially what piracy is – copying what is not yours. In school, we call that cheating. In life, we call it stealing. It is plainly and simply morally wrong. It also happens to be illegal.”
Hence, OMB recently partnered with ABS-CBN’s The Filipino Channel (TFC) for an awareness campaign on anti-piracy. Aligning with Ricketts’ battlecry of “Bawal Kumopya” (literally translated as “Copying is prohibited”), TFC tapped the cast of its top-rating primetime teleserye, “Walang Hanggan”, who willingly gave their time and effort to the production of the “Bawal Kumopya” public service announcement. Coco Martin, Richard Gomez, Dawn Zulueta, Julia Montes, Paulo Avelino and Joem Bascon all joined hands (and crossed their arms) in a united front for the war against piracy.
he “Bawal Kumopya” PSA was launched at the One Kapamilya Go sa California’s Great America held last September 16. Before 10,000 people, the video was unveiled, with Adobo Nation’s co-host Lee Robin Salazar and WBC Latino Flyweight and Super Flyweight Champion Glenn Donaire with his family and management introducing the campaign and enjoining all to remember the campaign’s battlecry.
The campaign launch, the PSA and “Bawal Kumopya” t-shirts were huge hits at the event. The campaign has aired globally on TFC and will be rolled out in various TFC events around the world.
The OMB, which replaced the Videogram Regulatory Board (VRB), is responsible in regulating the manufacture of optical media in all its forms and has the power to slap stiffer fines and penalties to those who illegally reproduce those products. Since Ricketts took office as the new head of OMB in 2009 under the Office of the President, he has achieved several key milestones in the battle against piracy.
This includes what was previously described as impossible: seizing in 2011 all copies of pirated videos on sale on the streets of Quiapo and Sta. Cruz – the symbolic piracy hub of the Philippines. In partnership with Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim, they proved that fighting film and video piracy is a winnable war if national and local government officials have the political will to end it.
Another major achievement under Ricketts’ leadership is zero piracy of films showcased at the annual Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), a Christmas season tradition that families had enjoyed and contributed financially to the benefit of the Filipino film industry. Since 2009, he has accomplished a piracy-free film festival which resulted to robust theater attendance and ticket sales for the festival.
Ricketts was lauded by the film industry, receiving the FPJ Memorial Award from the Film Academy for Movie Arts & Sciences (FAMAS) in recognition for his efforts. He has also been assigned a star in the Walk of Fame in Eastwood City.
This strong leadership and resolute commitment to eradicate piracy and, in effect, help the economy and the film industry, inspired the ABS-CBN TFC management of to assist the efforts of Ricketts and bring his message to Filipinos overseas.

Due to insistent public demand, the world renowned dancing inmates of Cebu finally had their own version of Psy's Gangnam Style music video.
Despite the heavy rain yesterday afternoon, Sept. 29, at least a thousand inmates of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) entertained guests with their ecstatic adoption of the Guinness World Record holder for the "Most Liked in YouTube."

Graded ‘A’ by the Cinema Evalution Board (CEB), “Sta. Niña” tells a moving story of a 2-year-old daughter of Paulino (Coco) who died and was buried for ten years. But when Paulino unexpectedly dig up the remains of his child, he discovered that she showed no signs of decay and this was perceived by many as a miracle.
Since its initial release during the 8th Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival last July, the film earned nods from the moviegoers. Veteran actors, ordinary viewers, and even countless netizens and bloggers were all praises for the great storyline of the film and the stirring portrayal of Coco and the whole cast.
According to blogger and lawyer Francis Joseph Cruz, “Sta. Niña” has a greater message other than religion and faith. He commented, “There is actually more to the film than to pinpoint the blatant hypocrisies of the self-proclaimed religious. The film is made from a perspective that does not hold judgment towards these beliefs and practices. It finds humanity in the very reason why these beliefs and practices exist and persist. Nothing is more human than survival in a society that is quick to pass guilt and slow to forgive and forget.”
Eric Cabahug of InterAksyon.com, meanwhile, applauded the Coco and Direk Manny’s remarkable contribution in making the film ‘beautiful. “For sure the movie succumbs to genre conventions, but director Emmanuel Palo treats all of them with understated confidence, intelligent feeling, and glorious restraint,” he said. “Coco Martin brings his rueful soulfulness to Paulino. It’s a finely nuanced performance that fully and beautifully captures the wounded heart, scrappy wit, and determined spirit of a crusading father, conflicted ex-husband, and dutiful grandson.”

SARAH Geronimo’s performance on her weekly musical variety show on TV has generally been improving and gaining in self-assurance. It’s also good to see that she no longer relies excessively on her signature birit style of high-decibel “power” singing, and has learned the virtues of musical versatility and contrast.
However, when Sarah attempts to be funny, it’s another story altogether—she just doesn’t have the knack, wit and timing for it. In this regard, we advise her to stop trying to do everything and just focus on what she does best (singing and dancing).
Two Sundays ago, for instance, she launched into a long, ostensibly satirical scene with some top comedians—and ended up with egg, or at least custard, on her pretty face.
The extended spoof was a takeoff on the current “monster” film hit, “The Mistress,” and Sarah was cast as the wife, Mitch Valdes as the mistress, Nanette Inventor as the wife’s intrigera friend, Tessie Tomas as a Miriam-type lawyer-judge, Gab Valenciano as the husband, and Luis Manzano as the lover.
In the first place, Sarah was thoroughly miscast as the wife, since she was the youngest player in the scene, so the spoof simply didn’t wash.
It also looked and felt terribly under-rehearsed, with some players flubbing their lines, falling out of character, giggling inanely etc.
In addition, the young Valenciano was also miscast as the husband. Aside from that, he was an inexperienced comedic performer, so his portrayal fell flat. Luis was similarly phlegmatic.
Mitch and the skit’s other cast members were far more experienced and did better, but the dialogue they were made to deliver was generally lacking in wit, so they had their work cut out to imbue them with comic zing and sting.
To make things worse, Nanette mugged too much in a forcing-through effort to punch up the scene’s level of hilarity.
Well, the veteran comics will survive to tickle viewers’ collective funny bone another day—but, Sarah was so awkward and ineffectual as a comedian that she should really give that challenging performance mode a wide berth—until she really learns how to do it well.
The “don’t mind me, I’m just fooling around” alibi simply won’t cut it, especially when you’re performing with experienced comedians whose more with-it work can leave your relatively gauche attempts far, far behind.
It’s fine to aspire to become a total performer, but “total” means good at a wide range of performing modes—and, when you clearly aren’t, the attempt can be counterproductive, to say the least.
Now that Sarah is a young-adult performer, it behooves her to set higher standards for herself, because her “learning” days and years are over, and she’s now expected to do well in everything she does. If, as in the case of comedy, she falls short of the mark, she should leave well enough alone and focus instead on her best performing suits, for which she’s more deservedly acclaimed.

The finale week of ABS-CBN’s top-rating Primetime Bida drama series “Lorenzo’s Time” is all set for its ‘timeless finale’ that is filled with inspiration and life lessons. The said teleserye, which is topbilled by Zaijan Jaranilla and Carmina Villaroel will air its last episode this Friday (October 5).
Zaijan said that he is grateful to all the TV viewers who joined the three-month journey of his character, Enzo. “Thank you for all the support. I hope you’ve learned some important lessons in life through Enzo’s story,” he said.
Meanwhile, Carmina shared that there are still a lot of surprises in the last few nights of their series. “The final week is filled with revelations. Watch out as to how Enzo will spend his remaining time with his loved ones.”
Aside from Zaijan at Carmina, also part of the cast are Ms. Gina Pareño, Joel Torre, Alfred Vargas, James Blanco, Rommel Padilla, Tess Antonio, Kakai Bautista, Gerard Acao, Vino Martinez, Belle Mariano, and Ms. Amy Austria-Ventura. Kapit Bisig Para sa Ilog Pasig’s “09.30. 2012 Run, Ride & Roll for the Pasig River” made a stronger call for cleaner esteros with around 70,000 actual participants despite heavy rains in Quezon City Sunday (Sept 30).
Around 87,000 registered to participate in the advocacy event that will raise funds for the clean-up of esteros in Quezon City. This number was higher than the turnout in “11.20.2011 Run for the Pasig River” that was the largest single racing event last year with 86,547 runners.
“There were still a lot of people despite the rain. They ran in the rain, they biked in the rain. It shows conviction. If people want it bad enough, we’re going to clean the Pasig River,” said Gina Lopez, managing director of ABS-CBN Foundation that operates KBPIP.
Over 86,000 participants registered in the 5km race, which started at 6 a.m. at the Quezon Memorial Circle (QMC) going to the Tandang Sora Flyover and Luzon Avenue, then back to QMC.
Another batch of 1,000 participants, who were composed of runners, cyclists, and skateboarders left the QMC earlier at 4 a.m. and took the 15km route to Commonwealth Elementary School, then back to the QMC for the finish line.
Among the runners were Senator Pia Cayetano, ABS-CBN chairman and CEO Eugenio ‘Gabby’ Lopez III, Gina Lopez, ABS-CBN Cable Channels and Print Media Group Ernie Lopez, Kapamilya stars Kuya Kim Atienza, Matteo Guidicelli, Kim Chiu, Maja Salvador, and Xian Lim.
ABS-CBN Safety and Events Risk Management head Martin Aguda said the advocacy event was generally peaceful despite the rains, the huge crowd, and the expectedly heavy traffic congestion around the Elliptical Road. He said the traffic stream along Commonwealth Ave. was also smoothly flowing unlike other previous races held on the major road.
The last batch of runners who left the starting line left at 8:15 a.m., Aguda said.
The crowd stayed until the post-race program that featured ABS-CBN personalities Sam Milby, Venus Raj, Robi Domingo, Jovit Baldivino, Marcelito Pomoy, and the Quezon City Orchestra.
Gina Lopez also recognized during the program their partners in rehabilitating the waterways of Manila and the River Warriors, whom she called modern day heroes, for patrolling the esteros around the clock against polluters.
Event organizer Kabit Bisig Para sa Ilog Pasig (KBPIP) aims to raise P14 million in the run to start the clean-up in the esteros of Quezon City as a part of the seven-year rehabilitation of the Pasig River. KBPIP’s campaign, which has spurred local government units in cleaning their own esteros, will be launched in San Juan City in 2013.
It has organized three successful runs, namely the 2009 Philippine International Marathon: A Run for the Pasig River with an estimated 23,000 participants, the historic 10.10.10 Run for the Pasig River that broke the Guinness World Record for the “most participants in a racing event” with 116,087 runners, and last year’s 11.20.2011 Run for the Pasig River was the largest foot race joined by 86,547 runners.-ABS-CBN Press Release

It’s going to be a toss up among the Boys, the Girls, and the Groups as “The X Factor Philippines” contestants Gabriel Maturan of Dipolog City, KZ Tandingan of Digos City, and Daddy’s Home of Metro Manila made it to the final three of the country’s biggest musical event and will compete for the grand title in the much-awaited grand finals this Saturday (Oct 6) and Sunday (Oct 7) at the PAGCOR Grand Theater in Paranaque.
The highly-anticipated final musical showdown will also witness the battle of judge-mentors Martin Nievera, who mentors the Boys; Charice for the Girls; and Gary Valenciano for the Groups. Before the excitement this weekend, “The X Factor Philippines” went through an intense drama after Charice’s other mentee from the Girls, Allen Sta. Maria, ended her ‘x factor’ journey at a close fourth spot and got the boot last Sunday (Sep 30).
All three mentors, except Charice, voted to send Allen home and preferred for KZ, who joined her in the bottom two, to stay in the competition. Charice was spared from choosing between her two girls but bursted into tears when she bid one of her mentees goodbye. The battle stage is already set for the final three. Who will among Gab, KZ, and Daddy’s Home will emerge as the first “The X Factor Philippines” grand winner?
