15,000 fans packed Araneta for 'Walang Hanggang Pasasalamat' concert last Sunday!

15,000 screaming fans recently filled Smart Araneta Coliseum for the grand ‘Walang Hanggang Pasasalamat’ thanksgiving concert of ABS-CBN’s phenomenal TV drama “Walang Hanggan.”

 Leading the celebration are the series’ lead stars namely Richard Gomez, Dawn Zulueta, Helen Gamboa, Susan Roces, Melissa Ricks, Joem Bascon, Paulo Avelino, Julia Montes, and Coco Martin. Completing the powerhouse cast are top-caliber actors who became a huge part of the ten-month phenomenal sucess of the show including Nonie Buencamino, Ogie Diaz, Arlene Muhlach, Eda Nolan, John Medina, Shamaine Buencamino, Josh Ivan Morales, Valerie Concepcion, Dante Rivero, Richard Yap, and Eula Valdes.

Aside from the romantic chemistry of the event’s hosts Dawn and Richard, the whole cast treated their fans with non-stop memorable production numbers featuring the special tell-all interviews of Melissa, Joem, and Paulo with the ultimate multimedia star Toni Gonzaga; Susan and Helen with the unkabogable TV host-actor Vice Ganda, which brought the crowd screaming when ‘Doña Margaret’ had a ‘Gangnam Style’ dance showdown with Vice; Dawn and Richard with the Queen of All Media Kris Aquino, where CharDawn fans successfully asked their idols for a kiss; and Coco and Julia with the Asia’s King of Talk Boy Abunda, where the two admitted that they will agree to marry each other if the world is about end.

Aside from the cast, also in the momentous event were world-class singers who sang the “Walang Hanggan” official theme songs including Gary Valenciano, Christian Bautista, Erik Santos, Jed Madela, Juris, Aiza Seguerra, Bryan Termulo, Bugoy Drilon, and Liezel Garcia. After almost a year since it aired on Philippine TV, ABS-CBN’s top-rating drama series “Walang Hanggan” is all set to treat its loyal fans with a grand concert titled ‘Walang Hanggang Pasasalamat,’ which is slated to be staged on October 21 (Sunday) at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. Leading the thanksgiving celebration are Richard Gomez, Dawn Zulueta, Helen Gamboa, Susan Roces, Melissa Ricks, Paulo Avelino, Julia Montes, and Coco Martin.

Aside from the show’s powerhouse cast, also joining the momentous event are special guests including Kris Aquino, Gary Valenciano, Vice Ganda, Boy Abunda, Toni Gonzaga, Richard Yap, Christian Bautista, Erik Santos, Jed Madela, Juris, Aiza Seguerra, Bryan Termulo, Bugoy Drilon, Liezel Garcia, and the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra to be conducted by Maestro Gerard Salonga.

For avid “Walang Hanggan” fans who wish to attend the ‘Walang Hanggang Pasasalamat,’ ABS-CBN is going to give away free tickets starting this Saturday (October 13) and Sunday (October 14) from 3pm to 5pm at the ABS-CBN Center Road. “Piracy is wrong.”

There is no ifs and buts about it.  Philippine Optical Media Board (OMB) Chair Ronnie Ricketts explained it in simple terms: “Since we were students, we’ve been taught not to copy what is not ours – quiz and homework answers, ideas, projects and the like. That is essentially what piracy is – copying what is not yours. In school, we call that cheating. In life, we call it stealing.  It is plainly and simply morally wrong.  It also happens to be illegal.”

Hence, OMB recently partnered with ABS-CBN’s The Filipino Channel (TFC) for an awareness campaign on anti-piracy.  Aligning with Ricketts’ battlecry of “Bawal Kumopya” (literally translated as “Copying is prohibited”), TFC tapped the cast of its top-rating primetime teleserye, “Walang Hanggan”, who willingly gave their time and effort to the production of the “Bawal Kumopya” public service announcement. Coco Martin, Richard Gomez, Dawn Zulueta, Julia Montes, Paulo Avelino and Joem Bascon all joined hands (and crossed their arms) in a united front for the war against piracy.

he “Bawal Kumopya” PSA was launched at the One Kapamilya Go sa California’s Great America held last September 16.  Before 10,000 people, the video was unveiled, with Adobo Nation’s co-host Lee Robin Salazar and WBC Latino Flyweight and Super Flyweight Champion Glenn Donaire with his family and management introducing the campaign and enjoining all to remember the campaign’s battlecry. 

The campaign launch, the PSA and  “Bawal Kumopya” t-shirts were huge hits at the event.  The campaign has aired globally on TFC and will be rolled out in various TFC events around the world.

The OMB, which replaced the Videogram Regulatory Board (VRB), is responsible in regulating the manufacture of optical media in all its forms and has the power to slap stiffer fines and penalties to those who illegally reproduce those products. Since Ricketts took office as the new head of OMB in 2009 under the Office of the President, he has achieved several key milestones in the battle against piracy. 

This includes what was previously described as impossible: seizing in 2011 all copies of pirated videos on sale on the streets of Quiapo and Sta. Cruz – the symbolic piracy hub of the Philippines.  In partnership with Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim, they proved that fighting film and video piracy is a winnable war if national and local government officials have the political will to end it.

Another major achievement under Ricketts’ leadership is zero piracy of films showcased at the annual Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), a Christmas season tradition that families had enjoyed and contributed financially to the benefit of the Filipino film industry.  Since 2009, he has accomplished a piracy-free film festival which resulted to robust theater attendance and ticket sales for the festival. 

Ricketts was lauded by the film industry, receiving the FPJ Memorial Award from the Film Academy for Movie Arts & Sciences (FAMAS) in recognition for his efforts. He has also been assigned a star in the Walk of Fame in Eastwood City.

This strong leadership and resolute commitment to eradicate piracy and, in effect, help the economy and the film industry, inspired the ABS-CBN TFC management of to assist the efforts of Ricketts and bring his message to Filipinos overseas.

In a related development, on September 14, 2012, ABS-CBN Corporation and Star Cinema filed with the Philippine Department of Justice the complaints for copyright infringement against Ogie Villamil as owner and operator of www.nabimovie.com. The National Bureau of Investigation’s Computer Crimes Unit (NBI-CCU) raided Villamil’s internet shop and residence in San Fernando, La Union province last July for alleged copyright infringement, specifically copying illegally, recording and uploading online for public viewing mostly TV programs and films from media network ABS-CBN Corporation and its subsidiary, ABS-CBN Film Productions, Inc.

Coco Martin's Sta. Niña still showing in selected theaters nationwide!

Graded ‘A’ by the Cinema Evalution Board (CEB), “Sta. Niña” tells a moving story of a 2-year-old daughter of Paulino (Coco) who died and was buried for ten years. But when Paulino unexpectedly dig up the remains of his child, he discovered that she showed no signs of decay and this was perceived by many as a miracle. 

Since its initial release during the 8th Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival last July, the film earned nods from the moviegoers. Veteran actors, ordinary viewers, and even countless netizens and bloggers were all praises for the great storyline of the film and the stirring portrayal of Coco and the whole cast. 

According to blogger and lawyer Francis Joseph Cruz, “Sta. Niña” has a greater message other than religion and faith. He commented, “There is actually more to the film than to pinpoint the blatant hypocrisies of the self-proclaimed religious. The film is made from a perspective that does not hold judgment towards these beliefs and practices. It finds humanity in the very reason why these beliefs and practices exist and persist. Nothing is more human than survival in a society that is quick to pass guilt and slow to forgive and forget.” 

Eric Cabahug of InterAksyon.com, meanwhile, applauded the Coco and Direk Manny’s remarkable contribution in making the film ‘beautiful. “For sure the movie succumbs to genre conventions, but director Emmanuel Palo treats all of them with understated confidence, intelligent feeling, and glorious restraint,” he said. “Coco Martin brings his rueful soulfulness to Paulino. It’s a finely nuanced performance that fully and beautifully captures the wounded heart, scrappy wit, and determined spirit of a crusading father, conflicted ex-husband, and dutiful grandson.” 

“Sta. Niña” is a hot topic even in several popular social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. It received numerous positive comments on Twitter like: “@ppagong–Sta. Niña is such a thoughtful film which marries both the concepts of star power of mainstream and indie-style storytelling;” @kris_seb Sta. Niña has a very well written script delivered by really good actors and actresses; and @NizAlanon–Congratulations to the whole production of Sta Nina! Coco Martin's MMK 'Kamao' Episode wins at 7th Seoul International Drama Awards!

Asia’s longest-running drama anthology, “Maalaala Mo Kaya” recently earned international recognitions from two of the most coveted award-giving bodies for television namely Seoul International Drama Awards 2012 and Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) Prize.

ABS-CBN’s “MMK: Kamao” episode (with international title “Remembering: Fist”) topbilled by multi-awarded actor Coco Martin, bagged the special prize in the recently concluded 7th Seoul International Drama Awards.

According to “MMK” business unit head Malou Santos, the latest recognition from Seoul International Drama Awards is an accolade they dedicate to the Filipino people whose inspiring tales are immortalized in the two-decade-old drama anthology.

“We share this honor to the Filipino people who continue to awe us with their stories of hope and resilience,” shared Malou. “This is also a tribute not only to the artistry of the people behind ‘MMK’ but more so to the nobility and strength of the ordinary people whose life stories inspire us the most.”

Led by highly acclaimed director Dado Lumibao, the episode was based from a true story of a war freak underground boxer named Ramon (Coco) who experienced pain in many forms since childhood. Together with Coco in “MMK: Kamao” are Jodi Sta. Maria, Philip Nolasco, BJ Forbes, Celine Lim, Veyda Innoval, Michael Roy Jornales, Carlos Morales, Levi Ignacio, Andrei Garcia, Aleck Bovick, and Mike Lloren. It was researched by Alex Martin and written by Benson Logronio.

Coco’s internationally-acclaimed “MMK: Kamao” episode will be aired again on ABS-CBN this Saturday (September 1) after “Wansapanataym.”

Meanwhile, another well-renowned international award-giving body Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) Prize named “MMK: T-Shirt” episode, starred by former child actress Sharlene San Pedro, as one of the finalists under the Television Special Jury Prizes category. The finals of ABU Prize will be held in Seoul on October 16.

“MMK: T-Shirt” shared the life story of a young girl named Gigi (Sharlene) who was raped repeatedly by his employer and eventually braved the struggles of being a young mother. The said episode was chosen to compete with other five entries from Bhutan, Vietnam, Indonesia, Mongolia, and Sri Lanka. The 2012 ABU Prize finalists were chosen from 166 entries from 18 countries and 25 organizations.

Together with Sharlene in the “MMK: T-Shirt” episode are Dante Rivero, Justin Cuyugan, Cherry Lou, Joy So, Chienna Roseph Filomeno, and Edrilyn Ocampo. It was researched by Akeem del Rosario, written by Marie Ann Dimaculangan-Fampulme, and directed by Don Cuaresma.

TV viewers will once again witness the highly praised “Maalaala Mo Kaya” episode topbilled by “Walang Hanggan” lead star Coco Martin and “Be Careful With My Heart” heroine Jodi Sta. Maria this Saturday (September 1).

 In the story, Coco portrayed the role of Ramon, an underground boxer who grew up as a battered child. At the time when Ramon has decided to change his way of living, unfortunate events forced him to commit crimes which enraged his family.
