ABS-CBN to launch Digital Television (DTV) First in the Philippines this 2011!

United States of America (USA) goes Digital in Television last 2009 (and it was mandatory and all channels cannot be reach anymore if you are using a analog) and now Philippines will be transform from old Analog TV to a Digital Television. Goes High-tech! ABS-CBN will launch it's Digital Television (DTV) FIRST in the country this year of 2011.
After the long and long rumor. ABS-CBN is finally speaking out....

LOPEZ-LED media giant ABS-CBN Corp. yesterday announced plans to launch five new premium channels on free-to-air TV as it prepares for its digital broadcast once government regulators approve the rules by June.

Antonio Miguel A. Mercado, ABS-CBN marketing manager for digital television, said the company is ready to roll out its digital broadcast service based on the Japanese standard earlier endorsed by the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC).

“We have prepared as early as four years ago to shift to digital broadcast, as soon as the NTC finalizes the rules and guidelines about digital TV broadcast,” Mr. Mercado told reporters yesterday.

He said if ever the NTC decides to adapt the European standard for digital broadcast in the country, ABS-CBN will be able to make the necessary adjustments to broadcast later this year.

He, however, said that ABS-CBN is more ready to immediately broadcast in digital format using the Japanese standard, since the company has already conducted test broadcasts in select cities in the country using the said platform for its digital terrestrial TV migration.

The Japanese standard, which is called the Integrated Services Digital Broadcast-Terrestrial, is being used in Japan, and has been adapted by other countries like Brazil, Venezuela, Peru, Chile, Ecuador, Costa Rica, and Paraguay in their shift to digital TV broadcast.

ABS-CBN, as well as GMA Network, Inc., and the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co., favored the Japanese platform over the European Digital Video Broadcast-Handheld standard, since the former was said to be cheaper to set up.

The NTC earlier said the set-top boxes (which is needed by analog TV sets to receive digital signals) would cost about $10 to $11, while the price for the European standard gadget would range from $12 to $13.

Mr. Mercado said ABS-CBN’s setup boxes, which it calls “DigiBox,” will cost between P1,000 to P3,000.

Digital TV is a system for broadcasting and receiving digital sound and video signals that requires a specifically designed, and more advanced TV set than the traditional analog box.

Mr. Mercado said digital TV produces better picture and sound compared to the prevailing analog system. “The digital TV viewing experience is comparable to seeing a movie on DVD,” he said.

The NTC estimates that around 14 million Filipino households use analog TV sets. To entice TV owners to shift to digital by spending on DigiBoxes, Mr. Mercado said ABS-CBN is preparing five new channels that would only be available to viewers thru the setup boxes that the network will sell. He said the five new channels will be on top of Channel 2, the current very high frequency channel of ABS-CBN, as well as Studio 23, which is ABS-CBN’s ultra-high frequency channel in the current analog broadcast system.

Mr. Mercado said digital TV occupies lesser space in the frequency so that a single TV station can broadcast on more than one channel, giving viewers more programs options.

“The new channels that ABS-CBN will unveil will cater to different audiences. The new channels to be made available include two channels for kids, a channel for the youth, a channel for dads and a channel for moms,” he said.

He declined to elaborate, saying that the new channels will be launched once ABS-CBN gets the green light to begin its digital TV broadcast. TV networks are waiting for the NTC to issue the implementing rules and regulations for digital television-terrestrial services before finally rolling out their respective digital TV programs.

Mr. Mercado said the five new channels will be a source of additional revenues for ABS-CBN since they will have commercials. He said ABS-CBN has been preparing for the switchover since 2007.

Shares in ABS-CBN closed 40 centavos lower to settle at P42 apiece yesterday.
But, as what Americans faced last 2009... some can't afford to buy or purchase the Digital Box and it left them from having no television to watch. Will Philippines face the same thing?
As the article said above that the Digital Box “DigiBox,” will cost between P1,000 to P3,000. The question is... ARE YOU SWITCHING?
ARE YOU WILLING TO SPEND THOUSANDS TO A DIGITAL TELEVISION?

'Imortal' to end this month of April!

MANILA, Philippines - Hunk actor John Lloyd Cruz shared that his hit television series, "Imortal," with Angel Locsin will come to an end this month.

In an interview with "The Buzz," Cruz said the series will end after 6 months of “hard work and love.”

"It's been quite a journey for me kasi sabi ko nga bago kami nagsimula, ngayon lang ako papasok sa ganitong genre, ‘yong [fantaserye]," Cruz said.

When asked what made him accept the project, Cruz, who is known for being good dramatic actor, said: "Hindi naman puwedeng ganoon at ganoon na lang ang ginagawa natin. Gusto ko ding [maiba] kasi it's a way of giving back to my audience."

When asked if he would consider his character in "Imortal" as his best role yet, Cruz replied: "I'd say this one is very memorable. Ngayon lang ako nag-leather jacket sa Maynila para sa show na ito. Imagine mo mag-leather jacket sa Quiapo."

"Imortal", which started airing on Oct. 4, 2010, tells the story of how great love can stop the centuries-old war between werewolves and vampires.

Lia (Locsin), a half human, half werewolf who is out to redeem the honor of her parents, will find herself falling in love with Mateo (Cruz), the next most powerful vampire.

As faith dictates, the two were born with special birth marks symbolizing their power. Lia and Mateo are destined to become mortal enemies, but love will change everything.

“Imortal” also stars Maricar Reyes, Rico Blanco, Jomari Yllana, Jake Roxas, Vivian Velez, Johnny Revilla, and Jaime Fabregas.

The pilot episode of the show was directed by Chito S. Roño. Other directors of the TV series are Jerry Lopez-Sineneng, Trina N. Dayrit and Richard V. Somes.

MTRCB probes 'Willing Willie' incident!

MANILA, Philippines - The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) is conducting a preliminary investigation on an incident involving a 6-year-old-boy's "macho-dancing routine" on television show "Willing Willie."

In an interview with ABS-CBN News, MTRCB chairperson Grace Poe-Llamanzares said a committee has been formed and it commenced its first hearing, which is open to the public, on Monday afternoon.

"Lahat po ng mga concerned citizens, groups na gustong makinig o kung anuman iyon, ay dito lamang sa general area ng opisinang ito," she said.

She said the committee has also invited representatives from TV5 network to participate in the proceedings.

The media, however, would not be allowed to cover the proceedings as it may "hamper the spontaneity of the people inside especially when they're playing for the camera."

"We have to respect, I guess, their right to privacy at some point," Poe-Llamanzares added.

The MTRCB chair said the hearing might last for 2 weeks as all personalities involved in the incident must be given time to be heard.

"Usually, adjudication lasts for about an hour or less but in this particular case, we have to present the opinions of several experts in the field of child care or child rearing. It might drag longer than an hour," she said.

"It can last for that long (2 weeks). That's why, if ever we come up with a statement, or kung may statement man mamaya, maaring preliminary lang muna," she added.

Poe-Llamanzares assured that MTRCB would keep the public posted through its official website.

"Maglalabas kami ng bulletin palagi, maglalabas tayo ng kung anuman ang nangyayari sa proceedings," she said.

Host Willie Revillame and his show on TV5 have drawn heavy criticisms after they showed 6-year-old Jan-Jan gyrating and impersonating the body movements of a macho dancer in exchange for P10,000.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development and several other organizations, including the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) and UNICEF Philippines, have said it was child abuse and exploitation.

Amid the criticisms, Revillame’s camp and TV5 issued a public apology but they denied the allegations of child abuse and exploitation.

A party-list representative has already called for a congressional inquiry into the incident.

Thousands of people supported Online Petition & Facebook Page against Willie Revillame Child Abuse!

Thousands of people supported the Online Petition & Facebook Page against Willie Revillame Child Abuse case!
As we wiriting this article, more than 2,219 people signed the online petition against Willing Willie & Willie Revillame.
This is the letter from the Online Petition:

Hon. Loretta Ann P. Rosales, Chairperson, Commission on Human Rights
Sen. Pia S. Cayetano, Committee Chair, Youth, Women and Family Affairs
Hon. Corazon "Dinky" Juliano-Soliman, Secretary, Department of Social Welfare and Development
Hon. Grace Poe Llamanzares, Chairman, Movies and Television Ratings and Classification Board
Mr. Manny Pangilinan, Chairman, TV5
Justice Santiago M. Kapunan, Officer in Charge, Integrated Bar of The Philippines
Mr. John Rojo, President, Philippine Association of National Advertisers
Ms. Charmaine Canillas, Chairman, AdBoard
SUBJECT: CHILD ABUSE ON WILLING WILLIE SHOW OF TV5
We wish to bring to your attention a deplorable incident that occurred during the March 12, 2011 episode of Willing Willie hosted by Mr. Willie Revillame which is aired during TV5's primetime block. In the said episode, also posted on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2YRCxh9q64w, a six-year-old boy named Jan-jan was shown dancing “ala-macho dancer," much to the delight of the host and the studio audience. As seen in the video, however, the boy was clearly distressed and humiliated by the said experience as evidenced by his crying while supposedly “entertaining” Mr. Revillame and his audience.
Children should be at school studying or playing at home. They should not be used as cheap entertainment. The act of making children work is already unfortunate, but the said act is made even more deplorable when in doing so they lose their dignity and self respect.
If TV shows that employ child actors are required to secure the necessary permits from the DSWD, are reality shows like Willing Willie required to do the same? Are representatives from the DSWD present to monitor these activities, especially for shows that air live?
We quote Article V, Section 9 of Republic Act No. 7610 or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act:
“Obscene Publications and Indecent Shows. – Any person who shall hire, employ, use, persuade, induce or coerce a child to perform in obscene exhibitions and indecent shows, whether live or in video, or model in obscene publications or pornographic materials or to sell or distribute the said materials shall suffer the penalty of prison mayor in its medium period.
If the child used as a performer, subject or seller/distributor is below twelve (12) years of age, the penalty shall be imposed in its maximum period.
Any ascendant, guardian, or person entrusted in any capacity with the care of a child who shall cause and/or allow such child to be employed or to participate in an obscene play, scene, act, movie or show or in any other acts covered by this section shall suffer the penalty of prison mayor in its medium period.”
Clearly, what transpired during this episode of Willing Willie was a violation of this provision of the law.
We condemn the blatant act of subjecting poor Filipinos -- especially minors, a group that history has shown to be one of the most vulnerable sectors of our society -- to humiliation in shows like these in exchange for some quick cash. Given the financial hardships that they have to endure, they often feel forced to do acts that violate their dignity as human beings in exchange for keeping body and soul together.
We condemn the host, not only for failing to stop the boy who was clearly uncomfortable with what he had to do, but more importantly for milking similar situations for the sake of selling the show and increasing its ratings.
We condemn the producers of the show and the management of TV5 not only for failing to act appropriately on this incident, but also for tolerating these kinds of shows, as well as the host's tasteless and humiliating antics.
We express disappointment towards the parents of the boy for subjecting their child to this horrible experience.
We express concern for the studio audience and others at home who found this incident amusing and entertaining. We express disappointment towards all the advertisers of the show for failing to consider the content and the values of the shows in which they advertise.
We challenge our government agencies, particularly the DSWD and the MTRCB, to act promptly on this and other similar incidents, and to institute measures to protect young children when they appear on Willing Willie and similar shows.
In this regard, we would like to request the following actions from your office:
1. For Mr. Manny Pangilinan and the management of TV5 to immediately implement a temporary moratorium on the guesting of children on Willing Willie and similar shows;
2. For Mr. Willie Revillame and the producers of the show to issue a public apology to Jan-jan and all their other guests whom they have humiliated in the past, and to promise never to commit the same in their future episodes;
3. For the MTRCB to conduct an investigation and review of the said episode to determine the violations made by the host and the producers of the show of the standards and regulations set by law and the Board, and impose corresponding penalties on those found guilty;
4. For the DSWD and the CHR to conduct an investigation into the said incident to determine the violations committed by the host, the producers and the management of TV5 of Republic Act 7610 or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act and Republic Act 9262 or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004, and initiate legal action against those who will be found responsible; 1. For the DSWD and the MTRCB, in partnership with the TV networks in the country, to formulate regulations that will cover the appearance of children on game shows and other reality-TV themed shows, especially those that are aired live;
5. For the Committee on Youth, Women and Family Affairs of the Senate to conduct an investigation, in aid of legislation, to institute amendments to Republic Act 7610 or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act and Republic Act 9262 or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004 to protect children from similar violations;
6. For the DSWD to provide counselling to Janjan and to all other children who participated on the show in the past for possible trauma and other physiological distress, as well as to their parents who consider subjecting their children to such experience as acceptable;
7. For the Integrated Bar of the Philippines to provide legal support to the victims of these abuses who may want to pursue legal action against those who will be found responsible by the relevant government agencies; and
8. For the Philippine Association of National Advertisers and AdBoard to forward this complaint to all their members, especially those who advertise on Willing Willie, and to request their members to temporarily cease placing ads on the show until the host, the producer and the management hav complied with this request and instituted reforms to avoid a repeat of this incident in the future. Otherwise, we will be constrained to start a call to boycott the products of those who will refuse to heed this request. We are expecting a prompt reply and action on your part. We will be continuously monitoring this issue and will continue to gather support from the general public through a Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Para-kay-Jan-jan-Shame-on-you-Willie-Revillame/102087546543288) we have started, as well as the mainstream media.

Robin Padilla apologized for the "Underwear scene" in his TV special "Iisang Landas: Ang Kuwentong Pag-Ibig ni Robin at Mariel"!

Pambansang Idol Robin Padilla apologized for the controversial "boxer shorts" scene that was included in the TV special titled "Iisang Landas: Ang Kuwentong Pag-Ibig ni Robin at Mariel," aired on ABS-CBN last Sunday.

In the said scene, Robin was only wearing boxer shorts which left little to the viewers' imagination.

In an interview during a press conference for his latest endorsement Natasha, Robin immediately said sorry to the people who felt offended by the scene.

"Patawad po sa mga na-offend. Sa mga natuwa naman po ay salamat. Pero hindi po namin intensyon 'yon na ganoon. Kasi sa katunayan ay ngayon lang po ako nakitang naka-boxer shorts. Twenty-five years na po ako sa pelikulang Pilipino at talagang ngayon lang ito naganap. Siguro talagang kailangan na talaga akong mag-underwear (brief)," Robin told reporters.

Robin stressed that after what happened, he already learned his lesson and believes it's the cue for him to start wearing briefs.

"Opo. Sa susunod po ay mag-a-underwear na tayo," he jokes.

Kapuso vs Kapamilya girls: the Cebu airport incident!

Madrigal, Lovi Poe, Bianca King and Solenn Heussaff had a sad experience in an airport in Cebu City recently.

According to a column item in Abante, the four, who were visiting the Queen City to promote the GMA TV series, “Captain Barbell,” were allegedly rudely treated by an airport staff simply for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

This was confirmed via Twitter by Madrigal. “Rude girl at the airport of cebu! Won't let her ruin my night,” read her post on March 27.

Poe’s two consecutive tweets on March 28 seemed to support the idea as well.

“If some people think that it’s cool to be looking all superior…wrong, it’s so fun to be down to earth.”

“And don’t act superior if you know that you have no K to be. Bwahahaha!”

The report said the brouhaha happened after Madrigal, Poe, King and Heussaff joined the rest of the entourage of the ABS-CBN show “ASAP Rocks” inside a room in the airport. They were said to have been invited in by ABS-CBN talents John Prats and Luis Manzano, who did so on seeing the Kapuso girls being mobbed by autograph seekers in the airport's public lounge.

Apparently, this didn't sit well with the airport staff, who allegedly confronted the four and reprimanded them for being in the room that was supposedly for exclusive use of the ABS-CBN talents. She then led the four back into the public lounge of the airport.

The actresses were offended by the manner they were treated. Although they didn't mind being asked to leave the room, they thought it could have been done in a courteous manner.

Meanwhile, a tabloid item in Pilipino Star Ngayon, alleged that the ill-treatment of the four girls was instigated by two girls from the ABS-CBN faction, as seemingly confirmed by a tweet from King, March 28.

“Why do some boring uptight girls have to b so insecure of lively, fun loving girls? Its not our fault we have many friends,” she tweeted.

Later that day, King tweeted another message: “may suspicion na kami ni @lovipoe and manang bell! We all noticed the same thing about 2 people.”

King didn't name the girls, however, deleting the tweets a few hours hence.

Jollibee Foods Corporation (JFC) suspended their Ad placement from Willing Willie!; ADS BOYCOTT!

BOYCOTT!

This is Jollibee Foods Corporation (JFC) statement from their Official Facebook Page:

TFC Shines with Historic Launch of New Global Affinity Campaign: “Tayo Ang TFC”!

http://ww1.prweb.com/prfiles/2011/03/31/8262172/gI_116051_tayo%20ang%20tfc2nd.jpgABS-CBN’s The Filipino Channel (TFC), the largest 24/7 in-language television network serving Filipinos all over the world, announced recently its first ever global affinity campaign that will be launched simultaneously in all regions where TFC is carried – a first in its 17-year history.

Tayo Ang TFC (We Are TFC) will kick off on April 3 via a new station identity (SID) on the show ASAP Rocks on ABS-CBN in the Philippines and on TFC in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Middle East, Asia-Pacific, Japan and Australia. Lending his voice to the new SID’s theme song, Tayo Ang TFC, is world-renowned singer Jed Madela, 2005 Senior Grand Champion Performer of the World at the prestigious World Championship of the Performing Arts (WCOPA) in Burbank, California.

The campaign highlights the common ground that TFC shares with Filipinos who migrated to other countries. It mirrors their life stories and experiences from the homeland to their struggles and achievements in their adopted land. It shows how TFC has become part and parcel of the Filipinos’ lives overseas – bringing joy, pride, a sense of home and family.

According to TFC’s Global Customer Engagement Head John-D J. Lazatin, “As we launch our new station identity, we look at ourselves from the eyes of our customers. To them, we are not just a channel and a provider of various services. Through the years, TFC has been a Kapamilya (family member) that helps Filipinos lead brighter, happier lives wherever they choose to build their dreams. TFC is a beacon of light that will always journey with the Filipino as he brings out his own light into the world for himself, his family and his community.”

“Tayo Ang TFC emphasizes that no matter where we are, our common Filipino identity and experience connect us all together as one global community. That is what we are celebrating in this campaign,” said ABS-CBN Global COO Raffy Lopez. “TFC is The Filipino Community worldwide, people who bring the light of hope, joy and triumph wherever they may be.”

TFC has been recognized by the PromaxBDA World Awards for its outstanding SIDs: Silver Award for Isang Dugo, Isang Lahi, Isang Musika (One Blood, One Race, One Music) in 2005 and another Silver Award for Lipad ng Pangarap (Flight of A Dream) in 2006. The PromaxBDA Awards is the only competition organized by the international association of entertainment professionals to recognize excellence in Marketing, Design and Creative Content and serve as the industry standard for excellence.

Following the global launch of the Tayo Ang TFC SID this Sunday, the campaign will go multimedia, with expansive visibility on-air, online, on-print and on ground.
